About me and my therapy practice

Hello.  My name is Karen and thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, loss, low self-esteem, trauma or perhaps you are just feeling distressed and you don’t know why. It may be that you are struggling to cope with something that has happened in your life.

How Therapy can help

Repressing emotions can be harmful to your mental health. Avoiding our emotions can lead to anxiety, depression, stress and panic disorders.

I can help by supporting you to identify the root of your problem that you are trying to deal with. By working together we can look at to understand why you are feeling the way you do.

I can help guide you through times of difficulty towards a deeper understanding of yourself, your feelings, thoughts and behaviours as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. I am constantly in awe of the transformation that people can make through counselling and I feel privileged to be able to be a part of it.

Whatever you bring to the session is what we will work with. The sessions are led by you, the client, and not me. We can explore your issues, feelings, beliefs, and behaviour so you can become more self-aware and when we become self aware we can feel more in control of ourselves and make different choices.

When we can understand and make sense of why we are thinking, behaving, and feeling the way we do can help us to learn to accept ourselves, feel more confident, make better, healthier choices and have a general overall more happier and peaceful outlook on life.

I firmly believe that by working collaboratively with my clients it helps them find a sense of hope and direction, as well as enhancing their own internal resilience.

Practice description

My Approach

I am an integrative therapeutic Counsellor which means I use various therapeutic models that will be especially tailored to you, the client, as I believe not one approach suits all and that each person is unique.

At the core of my training is person-centred which means the counselling session is led by you, that you are the expert on yourself as nobody else knows what it is like to be you. We will explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, and behaviour so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.

I work Psychodynamically which means by being curious about our past experiences can help with our problems in the present.  By understanding and exploring our early relationships can help us to see the impact they have had on us and why we feel, think and behave in certain ways and how this plays out in our current relationships.

I have a particular interest in trauma and how it manifests in the body affecting a person’s nervous system. Counselling can help you tune into your body and how it responds, once tuned in you can start to control how your body reacts to stress and trauma. Quite often there is a disconnection between the mind and body, we tend to live in our heads, forgetting about the body. When we become  aware of what goes on in our bodies and its sensations it can help us come back into our bodies again, it is almost like a ‘coming home to ourselves’ we can feel safe again. This can help alleviate stress and anxiety.

I help clients overcome issues such as the emotional trauma caused by abuse, anxiety, bereavement, relationship issues, low self esteem, PTSD, C-PTSD

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Somatic Trauma Therapy.

My first session

When you first make contact we will arrange an appointment for a initial session where we will look at your personal situation for seeking counselling.
