About me and my therapy practice
Welcome
I’m a qualified Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
I have over 14 years experience with adults within a range of organisations including the NHS, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health foundation trust, RSVP, dementia groups, carer’s association and Saint Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham as a Senior Bereavement Counsellor where I worked 1-1 and set up bereavement groups.
Confidentially is paramount, and I abide by ‘The Code of Ethics’ of the BACP.
I’m friendly and approachable and I have a huge range of experience working with clients with various issues including stress, anxiety, depression, low mood, bereavement and loss, guilt, shame, trauma, abuse, rape and sexual abuse, fertility issues, relationship issues, low confidence and low self-esteem, feeling stuck, career issues, bullying, poor self-image and much more.
I am trained in a number of different modalities but person-centred/client centred is my base and as I’m naturally empathic this allows each client to feel safe and not feel judged so they can share their issues or story.
I’m also trained and experienced in Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and this works well in addition to my other Counselling skills to help each client become more aware of their thoughts and behaviours, how to process them and make positive changes to them.
I also use stress management techniques including breathing and relaxation methods, creative visualisation, tools to remove mental and emotional blocks that may be preventing people from reaching their full potential
I wish to help support each client to learn ideas to manage their own stress and anxiety and my ultimate aim is to empower my clients to become whole again so they can move forwards in life with greater ease, self-confidence and self-awareness.
Practice description
The first step is making that decision to have that counselling and if you’re here you’ve done that so I encourage you to make the next step and call or email.
I offer fully confidential and private 1-1 short term Counselling (around 8-10 sessions)
OR long term Counselling sessions (1 year plus)
The time will depend on presenting issues and each client’s needs. You don’t need to know which you prefer to start with, just give it a go and see how you get along with it, absolutely no pressure.
My sessions are either in house (south Birmingham area) online or telephone sessions (depending on your schedule and what is best for you)
I really hope to connect with you soon and support you in whatever way I can, I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
After our initial chat or email I’ll book you in for an initial assessment (around an hour) at the same rate as usual 50 minute sessions.
The first session/assessment is to allow you to talk about why you need the support and so I can explain what types of counselling I offer, to agree to confidentiality and a counselling contract and ultimately to see if we can hopefully work together.
If we feel we can then I’ll book you in for you next session, ideally weekly 50 minute sessions work best. I may offer some short self-awareness reflective ideas for you to complete in between sessions but this is optional and only if I feel it is relevant.
