About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor offering short and long term individual counselling to young adults (18+) and adults. I can offer sessions online via video call or face to face in both Peckham and Clapham Common.

I aim to provide a warm, supportive and collaborative space to explore with you, at your own pace, any thoughts, feelings or difficult experiences you may be having. We will work together to increase your self-understanding and shed light on the sources of your struggles.

I hold a Masters in Psychodynamic Practice from The University of Oxford. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics.

I also hold professional liability insurance and am committed to attending regular supervision and CPD training opportunities. Doing so enables me to work more effectively with my clients.

I work with a wide range of issues including:

Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Family problems, Loss and bereavement, Relationship difficulties, Feeling stuck or hopeless, Challenging life experiences, Physical illness or health problems, Feeling life has no meaning or purpose, Low self-esteem and lack of confidence, Traumatic experiences in childhood and/or later life.

Practice description

The psychodynamic approach is at the heart of my practice. Psychodynamic counselling seeks to explore the underlying causes of our difficulties in order to bring about meaningful change.

It focuses on our past experiences and the ways these may have contributed to our development, often serving as a template for how we relate to ourselves and others in the present.

The purpose of psychodynamic counselling is to deepen our understanding of ourselves by bringing unconscious aspects of our thoughts, feelings and emotions into our conscious mind.

Through this process, we may see some shifts in our behaviours, develop new perspectives on our past and present, increase our sense of autonomy and find new and healthier ways of relating to others.

My first session

I would first invite you for an initial consultation. During this session, I will ask some questions to learn a bit about you and what brings you to counselling. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have before deciding whether to move ahead with regular sessions.

Should we choose to work together, we will then agree on a regular weekly session time and day which will be reserved for you. Counselling works best when there is consistency and regularity of sessions, so weekly attendance at the agreed time is expected.

Once we have met a few times and settled into our work, we can think together about the length of counselling appropriate for your needs. We can either choose to work together on a short-term basis (for an agreed number of sessions and with a particular focus), or in an open-ended, longer-term way to allow space and time for the work to evolve.
