About me and my therapy practice
I have 30 years experience giving counselling after being asked to, I’ve been headhunted since I began and been as a Specialist Adult mental health Therapist, Eating Disorders Therapist, CAMHS therapist and have worked as a therapist with young people in a range of settings from the NHS to charities to Schools and I had my own young people and mental health registered charity, which was voted charity of the year, I am Neurodiverse Informed. I am currently developing a government counselling service for young people who are neurodiverse with ASNs. I have also been a Specialist Addictions Therapist. I hold MBACP registration and have been a counselling manager and a supervisor. I will never judge you, but will work with you, drawing on a vast knowledge of approaches e.g. CBT, pluralistic, humanistic, solution focused etc and psychoeducational strategies tailored to offer therapy to meet your unique needs. I have had my work with adults and young people published nationally and my client work held up as examples of clinical excellence.
I offer a service built on decades of experience as a person centred therapist with a Masters in pluralistic counselling. I have an evidence based record of helping people make dramatic positive changes from a range of issues including relationships problems, trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders etc.
It takes courage to share our struggles, but through this we derive clarity, empowerment and insight. I have successfully helped people with long standing issues or trauma feel dramatically better. I will adapt to meet your needs, from psychodynamic insights, to solution-focussed strategies, to CBT skills, offered within a warm, safe, compassionate space. I have a lived experience of growing up in a family with complex needs and I will walk alongside you, committed to being there for you on your journey.
Practice description
Counselling can give you the space, confidentiality and time you need to make positive changes in how you feel, act and navigate the world.
I have worked as a specialist clinician and was the CEO of my own registered mental health charity. I currently work as a specialist psychotherapist developing a service for the Local Government providing counselling for the most vulnerable and at risk young people and private counselling sessions. I offer personalised, individually tailored counselling based on the unique needs of each person. I have had my work published and held up as examples of clinical excellence, and my work is frequently held up as examples of best practice adopted by psychologists, therapists, cpn's etc.
I have done a vast array of professional training including; Attachment Based Interviewing, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, AMBIT (Adolescent Mentalization Based Integrative Therapy) all NHS training for therapists working in mental health, 3rd Sector training including Place2be’s child and adolescent training and Government training for counsellors etc.
I've delivered workshops on: anxiety management, mindfulness, spirituality and compassion, assertiveness training, specialist patient interest groups, creative and art therapy; and started advocacy for mental health awareness which were subsequently rolled out as regional roadshows.
In addition, I have the open offer of a Doctorate and was offered the first cross school Doctorate between health, medicine and spirituality. I have completed all of the training for Edinburgh Rape Crisis and supported people in abusive relationships. I am LGBTQ+ inclusive.
Anyone who reaches out to better themselves and the lives of those around them, is an inspiration. You will set the pace of the sessions, all that matters is what is important to you. Our combined understanding, shared knowledge and a warm, trusting relationship will enable us to make things feel better.
