Therapist - LONDON

LONDON N8
07768990507
Sessions from £50.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available

Availability

I offer both online and face to face sessions (at the Haelan Centre) currently weekends (fri-sun).

I will give four weeks' notice of holidays.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative therapist which means I tailor my approach to you and what your needs and preferences are, drawing from many different techniques. We go totally at your pace getting to know and trust one another in a totally safe and non-judgemental space. We are complex beings so what’s right for one person may not be right for you. In our first session, we talk about what’s brought you to therapy and what you want to get out of it – but often these needs may change as we work together, we discuss this and adapt accordingly.

You may have experienced a recent loss – perhaps a bereavement or major life change like a job loss. It could be that you’ve always felt unhappy but not really understood why. Perhaps you find relationships with others challenging and want to explore this with someone independently. You may wish to understand what past experiences may be influencing your feelings in the present. I offer a number of coping strategies to manage your fears and anxiety through tapping, meditation and breathing work, as well as understanding what your triggers are. Ultimately my focus is to work with you to develop a mutual level of trust, providing a safe and facilitative space for exploration and growth.

Practice description

My practice is totally collaborative. I'm a facilitator to guide you, not advise you. Crucial to successful therapy is our relationship and from the get go, you can expect a totally safe and non-judgemental place to bring whatever you want – I have no fixed agenda, I will follow your lead. I will ask what you want to get out of your therapy, with a view to setting an ultimate goal but as you continue to explore on a deeper level, these goals can change, so nothing is fixed or set in stone, we will check in regularly to review how you think things are going and if you want to focus on something else.

I may reflect what I'm noticing play out in our relationship as we work together and this may be useful to facilitate greater understanding for how you may relate to people outside our sessions. But all this is done very gently at your own pace. You reveal what you want when you want.

Essentially therapy works on the premise that by exploring our past – the environment, relationships feelings, etc, it can help shed a light on how we relate in the present – to ourselves, to others, our view of the world. The first step towards healing is to make the unconscious conscious. It isn’t an easy process and it can take time so patience is needed but I can wholly testify from personal experience, it is definitely worth the effort – you are definitely worth the effort.

My first session

I will use our first session to gauge if I'm the best person to help you. This will involve a series of questions on your background and current presenting problems and to try to identify your goals for therapy. We will explore why you're considering therapy now and, if you've had therapy before what you found helpful and what you found less helpful. During this session, I will need to take notes so I can ensure I'm recording all the pertinent information for forthcoming sessions. We're basically painting a brief overview of where you are now and past problems that perhaps are influencing your present, information on your family and extended support network.

We will explore your preferences for therapy - it's an opportunity for you to gauge whether you feel comfortable with me and if I'm someone you feel you can trust and feel safe with.

Availability

I have availability currently and my working hours are flexible - including evenings and weekends. I am currently conducting online sessions on Zoom or Teams or by telephone but I can organise face to face sessions if desired in the local area.

I will always give you four weeks notice of any holiday.

About me and my therapy practice

Firstly, well done for taking the first step in getting here. It’s not  easy to realise something isn’t right and to seek help from someone outside your immediate family and friends.

My practice is rooted in person-centred therapy and based on the premise that the you are the expert in your life and can make change happen. My role is to help you get to know yourself better, for self-acceptance with the goal of becoming your best self and enjoying life to the fullest. Therapy isn’t like waving a magic wand – it takes time, but if you are prepared to be open and curious in getting to know yourself better, it can be a challenging but rewarding experience.

So you’ve taken the first step, why not take the second – please call me for an initial confidential chat.

The client/therapist relationship has often been likened to as a dance – and continuing this metaphor, we could start off with a waltz, covering a lot of the same material for a while, but then may evolve to a tango where we seem to be moving forwards in a specific direction. And then perhaps we may need to regroup and revert back to the waltz and so on and so forth…. I guess what I’m trying to convey is twofold; it’s not a linear process, and I will follow your lead.

We will explore your preferences for therapy - for example are you open to doing work and tasks between sessions, are you open to being challenged etc.

I charge an upfront fee which is slightly higher than regular sessions as it is slightly longer and this first session is crucial in gathering information on you and your requirements and what you want from a therapist. It's also an opportunity for you to gauge whether you feel comfortable with me and if I'm someone you feel you can trust and feel safe with.
