About me and my therapy practice
I provide individual counselling support to adults offering both short and long term work. I am a fully qualified and experienced psychodynamic counsellor based in Bristol BS3, BS6, BS8 and BS9 and aim to provide a non-judgemental space where you can feel listened to and supported through whatever difficulties you may be experiencing. If you struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem, I aim to listen with compassion and genuine warmth and no problem is too small. Perhaps it might feel daunting to take the first step into counselling but it's ok to feel unsure. Hopefully we can try and begin to think about what you are experiencing and delve a little deeper when you are ready.
Practice description
My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic which means we will think about how your past early experiences influence your present day relationships. The counselling sessions are an opportunity to talk about whatever is troubling you, an opportunity to reflect within a safe therapeutic space by bringing whatever comes to mind and to help you on your way to feeling happier in yourself. I encourage self-compassion and self-reflectiveness as a means to explore aspects of your life which may have been left unexamined/unquestioned and perhaps sometimes too painful to confront on your own.
I offer an initial consultation to ascertain what your present issues are, what you would like help with and whether I would be the most suitable therapist for you. Sessions thereafter will be held weekly, at the same time for 50 minutes.
I am a registered member of BACP (MBACP) and adhere to their code of ethics. My work is supervised and I am fully insured.
My first session
If this is your first experience of counselling, it may feel daunting so it is not uncommon to feel nervous. After an initial introduction to explain a little bit about myself and the way I work, we will have time to explore the counselling framework to ensure you know what to expect and the limits of the work. This is also a time where you can ask questions if you feel unsure about anything. I will then open the space up for you to talk about the issues you are facing. All sessions are conducted in the strictest of confidence.
I offer open ended and sometimes time limited work depending on the complexities of your issues.
What I can help with
Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Obsessions, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
