The above quote illustrates one of the unique components of the counselling relationship, namely that the counsellor will see each client as they really are, free from labels, or past experiences.
I’m an experienced Person Centred Counsellor and I'm passionate about helping people to work through whatever it is that is currently having an negative impact on their mental health. Whatever you are currently going through, the starting point is that you find a safe space where you can speak freely about it, where you can speak confidentially, and without fear of judgement. This environment can enable you to navigate the questions and feelings you have, empowering you to move forward in your life in a healthy way.
If we don’t speak about how we feel our feelings can keep us locked in a prison within our minds. It’s when we’re locked in that prison that we can feel confused, anxious, or depressed, sometimes unsure why we feel the way we do and unsure how to get out.
Speaking with someone within a therapeutic setting breaks open that prison door and gives us the opportunity to move out through it.
Speaking helps us to see things from a new perspective as those feelings move from being merely felt to being spoken about. It’s almost as if they become present in the room with us and we can experience them differently, and often begin to understand and accept them more.
From that place, as we work together, you can then begin to “speak yourself free”.
My first session
At your first session, we will talk through how we work, we will go through the counselling contract together, and we will have time for you to ask any questions that you may have.
