About me and my therapy practice
It can be difficult making the decision to come to counselling; perhaps not knowing what to expect.
As a person-centred counsellor, I’ll work to understand what is causing you concern or distress and look to help you understand the related feelings and emotions that are often overwhelming. We’ll work together in a confidential and supportive way to help create for you a better understanding of yourself while gaining new perspectives. Together, we'll create together ways to help you cope so that you can continue to develop this when you finish with counselling, as you move towards where you want to be.
I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP, PGDip).
Based in Dunfermline, Scotland, I work online, as this allows me to work with people across the UK.
Practice description
You might find that online counselling sessions provide flexibility of time and the familiarity of your own surroundings, which for some, can be reassuring. There isn’t the need to factor in the time and expense of traveling to the counselling room. People I have worked with find we are able to work well and form a helpful working relationship in these online sessions.
Sessions last for 50 mins.
Of course, some people will prefer to meet a counsellor face-to-face and I understand that you may not be able to work with me if that is what you would prefer.
My first session
The first session will be an opportunity to find out about counselling, if you haven’t been before, to see if it is the right thing to help you right now. It’s a time for you to talk generally about what it is that’s brought you to counselling and for me to see how I might help. I’ll take down some initial information during this session about you, how you tell me you are feeling, and what it is that you want to get from counselling.
I’ll tell you about how I work, and the confidential nature of the counselling sessions and answer any questions you might have. If you decide that counselling could help and that we can work together, we’ll agree on how and when we’ll do that.
