About me and my therapy practice
I am a degree qualified Integrative Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Coach registered with the BACP and fully insured to practice.
I have been working to help people for over 20 years and have a particular interest, specialist training and experience working with Trauma, ADHD*, and Life transitions (such as small business start ups, divorce, mid life crisis etc). This also encapsulates working with anxiety, depression and relational dynamics.
I am delighted to be able to offer my counselling and coaching services under one banner as there is often crossover in what you may need from me. My qualifications and experience mean I am able to offer this flexibility and integrate many different ways of working to help you feel at peace in your life and take control of your future.
My initial training was psychotherapeutic but also have training in many other modalities and theories. This allows me to uniquely tailor your sessions to you personally.
What does this mean for you? You can feel safe that the therapist you choose is working in a safe and ethical way. We take regular supervision to ensure we are working to correct standards and undertake minimum amounts of continuing education each year so that we remain current in our field.
You may have had counselling before but as with all counselling it is important (vital even) to find a therapist you feel comfortable with.
That’s why I offer a free consultation so we can briefly meet before deciding to work together.
Practice description
You will hopefully find me warm, welcoming and empathic, while at the same time unafraid to gently challenge and explore your world.
I aspire to be genuine and open and offer a non-judgemental environment where you feel completely safe to open up.
In the first session we will discuss and agree boundaries on how we will work. I will likely ask you questions to get to know some background information that will help me get a sense of who you are.
You are always in control and what you bring is up to you. Its my job to help you unpick this and gently challenge you where needed in a respectful and non judgmental way.
During sessions you may talk about things in your past, things that are happening in your world today, or working more internally with your feelings in the moment.
If helpful we may also work creatively using paper exercises or other thought provoking materials. Whatever works for you.
When you arrive in therapy, you may have a specific issue you want to explore. However, you may just know that you don’t feel good but don’t really understand why (or what to do about it). This can feel stressful in itself!
Whether its trauma or life in general, we aim to unpick the muddle and help you get to a place where you feel more settled and in control of your life. How do we unpick it? By talking about your experiences.
I firmly believe that our past experiences shape who we are, what we believe about ourselves and the world around us, and inevitably has an impact the decisions we make going forwards.
I don't believe on dwelling in the past, but taking time to explore and understand what has happened to us will enable greater awareness of what we need going forwards.
We are the sum of many parts and our lives do not need to be perfect. There will always be areas of stress in our lives, but actively working on personal growth and how we manage these stressors can make all the difference to our happiness.
