About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Charlotte - and I hope I can help.

I offer a calm, compassionate and caring space for your therapy. I am an Integrative counsellor - but my priority is creating a connection and supporting you in being heard.

I counsel adults and young people and I’m also an experienced coach.

I am skilled to support you - or your child’s - differing needs by integrating different theories, strategies, and practices.

Much of my practise uses the Person-Centred approach - this is where the client is at the centre of the therapy and when becoming self-aware and ‘understanding the self’ can bring about desired change.

I also incorporate the Psychodynamic approach - looking at how understanding your past and different relationships may have shaped your present and could shape your future.

The other main strand I work with is CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). This therapy focusses on retraining negative thinking and looks at different strategies and practices to support you with moving forwards in the here and now.

I believe the first step to feeling better is to understand yourself and to give yourself the time and space you need in a secure and supportive environment, and I work hard to establish a space for you to do this.

All our work together is confidential, creative (if you want it to be) and non-judgemental.

Practice description

I counsel in schools, counsel and coach adults, train adults in supporting themselves and children and have worked in local hospices supporting clients suffering bereavement.

I often work with clients with anxiety, depression, loss, managing complex feelings and emotions, life changes, work related stress, self-esteem and other common mental health issues.

I work hard to create a counselling relationship that suits the individual client and helps them feel empowered.

I have a long history of working with people and have also worked in education in addition to therapy.

I am always adding to my training and experiences and seek to learn more about different ways in which I can help - if you’re not sure if my skills are suited to you - please ask. If I’m not the right therapist I can offer support in finding someone who is.

What is counselling and how does it help?

Counselling can take many forms - I offer an integrative approach where I adapt my practice to suit your needs. I blend different therapies to support in different ways. It is a reflective and powerful process and gives the space for change if wanted.

Counselling is a choice and in working together changes can be made to life and in creating a healthier and happier state of mental wellbeing.

Often therapy results in more self-confidence and feeling more capable to deal with the rollercoaster that’s life; it is often empowering and brings about change.

Counselling can help you know who you are, and what you want, or where you want to go. It can help unpack difficult feelings or experiences and support you or your child to live life fully rather than just function.

Counselling promotes self-awareness and can improve relationships, interactions and understanding.

My first session

I offer an initial free 20-minute phone consultation where we can discuss your needs and see if we would be a good fit.

A full session is usually 50 minutes and in person. I can offer sessions online if this is something you’d prefer.

Each session can vary with what we cover.

It’s yours, or your child's, choice to focus on whatever is needed in that moment.

I can listen, reflect and make observations. I can encourage an exploration of what you’re facing in different ways and with different support.

I work with clients to make the sessions work for them - whether that’s specific strategies or having a space where the client can be heard. I am open to creative practise where exploration can be easier through activities - but I appreciate this is very much dependent on the individual and will tailor the sessions to suit your needs.
