About me and my therapy practice
How are you feeling today?
We usually go through life responding to this question with a simple ‘fine’ or ‘OK’, but when was the last time you felt able to answer this question honestly?
You might not be OK, you may be struggling with anxiety, stress, grief, difficult relationships, abuse or depression. Maybe you’re feeling sad, angry, frustrated, misunderstood, or just lost, and you want to get back to feeling like 'you' again. Or maybe even discovering who 'you' really are, for the first time. You may have a particular issue to explore, or you might not be able to pinpoint exactly what's worrying you. Either way, talking about it is a great way to begin to understand what’s going on for you and to start to see things more clearly.
As a qualified and experienced integrative counsellor, I draw on theories from person centred, CBT and psychodynamic modalities. Each client is a unique individual, I adapt how I work accordingly, tailoring my approach to one that best suits the client.
We can discuss what brought you to counselling, explore your fears and worries to help you gain a better understanding of yourself. This can help to identify the changes you would like to make, or perhaps it's about finding acceptance for the things you can't change.
This is a time to focus solely on you, a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings without judgement and without fear of upsetting anyone or worrying how others might react.
Practice description
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and take place online or over the phone.
I am very flexible around the hours that I work and the days and times that your session takes place. If you like routine we can see each other at the same time each week. If you prefer flexibility we can decide each week when you would like your next session to be.
You may be wondering if seeing a therapist online is as helpful as meeting face to face.
Honestly, if you'd have asked me before I started working online I may have said that nothing can beat meeting someone face to face, but I have a very different opinion now. I truly believe that online counselling is just as effective as seeing someone in person. Covid prompted the big move for therapists to work online, but it has continued to be a hugely popular choice for many clients. It's more convenient, offers greater flexibility and hopefully will help you feel calmer and more relaxed as you are in a familiar environment. If you're feeling anxious about video calls, let me know, and we can always have a quick trial session so you can be sure it's right for you.
My first session
I offer a free initial telephone call, lasting around 10-15 minutes. During this we can discuss your concerns and what you would like to get out of counselling. I will explain how I work and we can see if we are a good ‘fit’ for each other. There is no obligation to take things any further after this initial call. If you decide that you would like to go ahead we can look at suitable days/times.
I know it can be scary to take the first step, but I’m really down to earth and easy to talk to!
