About me and my therapy practice
I work in an Integrative way, assessing which modality suits the client and situation. It allows me to create a bespoke individual service and relationship. The methods I use include person centered, CBT, creative therapy, play therapy, solution focused and Psychodynamic Therapy. What this really means is that I work differently with each person. We talk through what you are looking to gain from these sessions and how you would like to work. I tend to find that people are looking for a connection and to be heard and validated. Being able to feel listened to is an important aspect of the relationship. I offer CBT methods as strategies to encourage positive coping mechanisms and homework for you to do and feed back on how you have found it, if you would like to.
I have experience of working in both primary and secondary schools. With mainstream children and children with special educational needs. I can create relationships with children and adults that can often find it difficult to engage with services or who have behaviours that may challenge others.
I have a warm and welcoming therapy space in Redhill, close to Reigate. The space can be used for talking therapy and also a space to be more creative and playful. There is a waiting area for parents and clients.
I work in person and online, this allows me to offer more variety and flexibility.
If you are someone who wants complete privacy in and does not like awkward waiting areas, this may suit you. I treat all clients with the same compassion, care, empathy and unconditional positive regard with respect and no judgment.
Practice description
I understand how daunting it can be to look for and reach out to someone unknown to you. I work from a place of warmth and empathy and offer a human experience based on authenticity and understanding.
Believing the relationship we build is the key to success, I use this in my work to establish a collaborative relationship with you or your child. Creating a relationship that is both comfortable and with boundaries.
Having diverse experience helps me to be able to form a way of working that is comforting, supportive and empowering, I can be a place to talk freely and openly about things that matter to you, or may be affecting or concerning you. I can help you to see things from a different perspective and together create positive coping mechanisms if necessary.
Working across different mediums allows for you to be able to decide what works best for you and flexibility if some weeks you need to work online.
In my practice I prefer to work from a human approach, allowing you to set the pace and agenda. I may at times offer an intervention that I feel will help you to gain further insight or a differing perspective to your own. From the challenges is where we see the growth. I work in a gentle and caring way always with your best interest in mind.
I also have creative ways of working that are less challenging than just talking therapy. With my younger clients I have a variety of ways of helping them to build trust and a relationship with me. I tend to use creative methods such as sand, drawing, music, play, games and for some a worksheet helps them to orientate themselves around a feeling and know when this piece of work will end, especially if they find it challenging to talk or feel their feelings.
My first session
Before we start the sessions, I offer a free consultation where you can ask any questions, let me know how you would like to work and see if I am the right person for you. I will explain the boundaries of the work we can do, it’s important to understand the expectations you have and for me to explain my ethical boundaries and practice.
During the first session I may clarify how you, or your child are feeling and to see if you would like to set any goals.
I also use an assessment tool which helps me to see how you are feeling and what might be the priorities to address. I tend to use this to start a conversation when clients may find it difficult to start off talking. It can help you to feel more comfortable.
