About me and my therapy practice

Anxiety can be a nightmare, especially if you’ve lived with it for a long time, perhaps since your childhood. But you can take charge of it. Overcome anxiety, release the pain of the past, and start creating a more fulfilling life today.

Most parents do their best for their children, but some drop the ball. Many of us carry scars from childhood. Whether this pain stems from inadvertent or deliberate actions or omissions by our parents, it can have lasting effects, leading to feelings of anxiety that persist into adulthood.

• Maybe you wake up with a knot in your stomach, worrying that something bad will happen.

• Maybe you avoid social events because they are too uncomfortable.

• Perhaps you replay conversations in your head over and over again, wishing you’d handled them better.

• You may find it hard to concentrate.

• Maybe, under the weight of your churned-up feelings, you say things that put a strain on your relationships.

These are signs that past experiences might be affecting you. The emergence of anxiety in strained situations, including in childhood, is normal, but it’s possible to move beyond it.

I specialise in helping adults who struggle with anxiety rooted in childhood abuse and neglect. Together, we can work to release the pain of your past and manage your anxiety rather than letting it run the show. This will empower you to create a more fulfilling life for yourself.

I’ve helped many clients overcome similar challenges. I’m deeply passionate about this work because I’ve been there, and I’ve come out the other end, thanks to counselling. I vividly remember feeling paralysed by anxiety, unsure of where to turn. Counselling was my lifeline, and it can be yours too.

If you struggle with anxiety, take the first step towards healing. Don’t wait another day to reclaim your life. Contact me now to schedule an initial meeting, and start your journey toward peace and fulfilment.

Practice description

I work with adults on a one-to-one basis, both in person and online. As an experienced, warm, understanding, and compassionate counsellor, I help people who struggle with anxiety stemming from emotional abuse or neglect during childhood.

Client Testimonials

Previous clients have shared transformative experiences, expressing relief from past hurts, improved coping strategies, and enhanced self-esteem. They became more confident, fostered healthier relationships, and developed self-compassion.

“I recommend Erika as a therapist for her ability to create a supportive environment. From the outset, she skilfully established a warm and safe space. In each session, her genuine care and clear passion for helping others shone through. I was able to trust that she wouldn’t judge me... I felt not only heard but truly understood... An invaluable ally for anyone seeking genuine support and understanding!”

My Personal Journey

I understand anxiety and the pain of the past first-hand, having faced and worked through similar difficulties. My own experience as a counselling client inspired me to transition from teaching and care work to become a counsellor.

My first session

The first session is all about us getting to know each other and seeing whether we’re a good fit.

It's perfectly normal to come to the session, form a first impression of me, and decide that I’m not your cup of tea. But it’s also possible that you’ll feel comfortable with me and confident that we can work together. I certainly hope for the latter scenario, but ultimately, it’s your choice.

During this session, I’ll ask you about what brings you to counselling and what you’d like to achieve. This helps me ensure I have the training and experience to provide you with the best service. If I’m not qualified to work with you, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.

I’ll also explain a bit about how I work as a counsellor. This session is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about counselling and my approach. What I say and the way I say it will help you decide if I’m the right therapist for you.

If we both feel that we’re a good fit, we’ll find a weekly time slot that works for you, and we’ll be ready to start.

You can have this initial meeting online, in person, or over the phone—whatever works best for you.

If this sounds good to you, contact me, and I’ll provide more information in my reply.
