About me and my therapy practice
Initially I trained as a Person Centred Counsellor but have continued to study and have additional training and qualifications in Transactional Analysis (TA).
TA explores our relationship with ourselves and others, how we communicate and how past experiences impact our thoughts and feelings in the here and now. Through this understanding you are able to develop a better understanding of yourself and others and take steps for positive change.
As the Therapist, I will provide a relaxed, empathic and supportive environment to enable you to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and responses to those and achieve resolution.
In addition to TA I am a qualified Hypnotherapist and Neuro Linguistic Practitioner.
Practice description
I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1991. I worked in a variety of nursing roles including Surgical nursing, Palliative Care at Manorlands Hospice, as a Practice Nurse at two GP Surgeries and latterly as a Specialist Addiction Nurse within the Drug and Alcohol Service in Leeds.
I am passionate about helping people and treating each client as an individual with empathy and compassion.
Through the therapeutic process and working together with my clients I aim to promote self belief and confidence in order to address any issues or self defeating behaviours to improve outcomes and quality of life.
Throughout my career I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, from all nationalities and religions and from all socio-economic backgrounds. Mental health does not discriminate and I aim to help break down the barriers and stigma surrounding mental health issues by implementing my skills as a hypnotherapist, counsellor and NLP practitioner. I am also continuing my studies in Psychotherapy at the current time to further my existing skills.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute Initial Telephone Consultation. This gives you the opportunity to discuss what is currently happening for you and how therapy can help. The telephone also allows you to gain an understanding of how I work and whether you feel I am the right therapist for you. There is no obligation to book a session following the telephone consultation.
If you decide to proceed with sessions the first session will involve history taking, contracting (this involves an agreement between you the client and me the therapist to ensure the sessions provide you with what you need) and discussion regarding confidentiality, treatment planning etc.
Together we will regularly review your sessions to ensure they are helpful and beneficial to you.
