About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Scott Alexander.  I’m a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have counselling rooms in Sevenoaks and in Maidstone. These are safe, comfortable and confidential spaces. I also offer telephone and online counselling, so if you’re not local or would simply prefer online sessions, we can arrange them remotely.

I am committed to helping clients discover their potential by building a trusting therapeutic relationship, to enable change to happen.  If this sounds like something you might have been looking for, please get in touch and together we can see if we think we would be a good match.

Alongside my private practice, I am a counsellor for Wellbeing in the Arts, a charity which supports people in the entertainment world.  I also volunteer as a counsellor for patients and their families at a local hospice.

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and a BA (Hons) degree in history.  Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, I worked as a solicitor for over 30 years and so I am familiar with the stresses and strains of a demanding career and the issues that can arise from changing careers.  This varied background gives me a wider perspective and can add a different dimension to our relationship.

Practice description

For many of us there are times when life and relationships do not run smooth, when we feel in need of extra support and time to talk and explore the things that are causing us to struggle. These can be a whole range of issues including death, grief and bereavement, family, marriage and relationship concerns, anxiety and depression, money worries, work and career problems, loneliness, going through transitional stages, fear about the future, and ageing.

If you are finding it hard to deal with any of the above, now might be the right time to arrange to talk to someone.

I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I believe there isn’t just one therapeutic approach for all situations.  In our work, I will draw on a number of different counselling and psychotherapy theories and approaches, using the ones that together we think will be the most suitable and beneficial for you.  The main approaches I use are person-centred, existential and psychodynamic.  (Please see my website for a brief explanation of these terms).

Whichever approach is used, my overriding aim is to allow a therapeutic relationship to form between us that is warm, caring and non-judgmental.  Without this, there can be no effective or meaningful therapy.  This relationship enables confidence, reassurance, openness and honesty.

My approach is to work alongside you, and help you through whatever it is that brings you to counselling.  You will always be at the centre of everything we do, and the sessions will always be led by what you want to talk about.

We all have a unique story to tell. I offer you a safe place to tell your story and to be heard with compassion, without judgment.

My first session

An initial consultation (lasting up to 50 minutes) costs £25.

Thereafter, if we agree to work together, sessions generally last for 50 minutes and cost £50.

I offer a range of counselling options including, in person in my counselling rooms in Maidstone and in Sevenoaks, or via Zoom or telephone. Where necessary, it can be a combination of these ways of working, whatever is most convenient for you. The duration of therapy is mutually decided and can be short or long term.
