About me and my therapy practice

The first step in counselling is finding a therapist you trust and feel comfortable with. I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space where we work collaboratively to explore and develop according to what is important and of value to you. Being truly heard and understood, often creates new insights to help in moving forward. In a safe and calm space, I support people to understand themselves, how to cope with difficult situations and be authentic in who they are. I have developed a wealth of experience of working with adults and young people in different settings.

I believe that we are all unique and I tailor the therapeutic process to what suits you. My aim is to support you throughout this process of change, providing you with the space to help YOU find the answers within yourself. I am a fully qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work with a variety of problems such as anger, anxiety, depression, lack of direction in life, lack of confidence, low-self-esteem, relationship issues, stress and trauma. I receive regular supervision in line with the BACP requirement.

I have training, qualifications and experience in both counselling and education such as:

• Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy

• Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Drama)

• BA Hons Drama and Communication Arts

• Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs) Recovery Training

• Autism Awareness Training

• Keeping Children Safe in Education (Safeguarding)

Practice description

I offer an integrative based counselling service to young people and adults. For over twenty years I have worked in the education sector; my role as a teacher provides me with a wealth of experience of working with 8-18 year olds within a range of settings. I provide an explorative space where you can find more clarity and insight about yourself. I understand how important it is to feel safe in exploring whatever you bring.

I have a non-judgmental approach and have experience of working with self-esteem issues, both as a teacher and therapist. Shame is often connected to self-esteem when we internalise critical thoughts, or battle with shame related to events from our present or past.

I am also passionate about supporting individuals who are looking to feel more like themselves. Loss, in its many forms, can be the catalyst for many of the underlying issues within therapy. The loss of a relationship or family separation, good health, fulfilment, direction, aspirations or status, for example. This may trigger anxiety, loneliness, low mood, depression or memories of past losses. Therapy is often a way of enabling you to ‘switch the light’ on issues that have caused or are causing instability and confusion.

I have worked with various education organisations and healthcare settings from GP Practices, Women’s Centres to school counselling and CAMHS services. I continue with both roles, holding both qualified teacher and counsellor status and actively engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) on an ongoing basis.

Each one of us is different and there is more than one way of understanding our world. This is why my sessions are integrative in order to provide the best approach for the individual needs of each client.

My first session

Before we book our first session, I will arrange a telephone call with you that is free of charge. During this informal call, we will discuss what you need from me or what you would like to work on and I will explain how I work. This will help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you. In addition, if you have any questions you can email me before this call.

After this, we can book our first session where we will discuss the therapeutic contract.
