About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Gemma and I am a BACP registered experienced Person-Centred Counsellor with a passion for creating a safe and supportive space for clients.
You may be struggling with the demands of everyday life, perhaps you are dealing with a loss or a trauma. Or you may just feel a little lost and not know which way to turn. In this busy world we often make space and time for those closest to us, but fail to give the same care and attention to ourselves. Counselling is time for you to reflect on your emotions; I provide a safe space for you to do this freely without being judged. Talking openly to someone who is not connected to you in any way, who can provide an open ear and objective voice can facilitate self-discovery and personal insight.
As well as my private practice, my professional background includes working at a well respected, reputable charity as the Therapeutic Service Manager; where I have extensive experience in working with psychological trauma including sexual, emotional and physical abuse and have undertaken specialised training in this area. In this role I also train and support volunteer counsellors.

Practice description
I can offer a free 20 minute telephone call or online conversation before our first session to make sure you feel at ease and address any concerns you may have. It is important you feel comfortable and I know making the first step to see a counsellor can be fraught with worries, nerves and questions.
I offer a safe, empathic and non judgemental space. We can work together, towards your therapeutic goals; be they overcoming difficult relationships, understanding a pattern of behaviour, or overcoming work related stress and anxiety.
My area of work includes emotional difficulties, PTSD, depression, sexual, emotional and physical abuse, trauma, self-harm, relationship difficulties, bereavement, loss, social and general anxiety, low self-esteem and bullying.
I work inclusively with sensitivity to cultural issues and individual difference and diversity.
My first session
During our first session I will explain how I work, the type of therapy I offer. We will go through our working agreement which covers confidentiality and privacy policy. I will ask you some questions to gain an insight of your unique needs.
