About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Juliet, a Counsellor & Bereavement/Loss Specialist working with clients through times of bereavement, grief, loss, chronic illness such as Cancer, Arthritis etc (either direct or diagnosed in others), life changes/stages and personal/family relationship difficulties.
These events can very often lead to unsettling feelings of anxiety, stress, abandonment, isolation, anger, depression and suicidal thoughts (amongst others). I will support you through this challenging time of your life with the objective of arriving at a healthier, more accepting and content way of feeling and being - whatever that looks like for you.
Sometimes we can be reluctant to spend time & money on ourselves yet by investing in our own mental health and wellbeing we invest in our relationships - not only within ourselves but those around us. When we feel happier, calmer, more content or accepting of ourselves we are better able to connect or reconnect with loved ones, friends, colleagues etc.
I have experienced my own losses, struggles and challenges. I've yearned to wake up each morning feeling brighter and better able to cope with the world and through compassion and the right support I got there. This is why I want to make a difference for my clients and you can read more in the 'About Me' section on my website https://newstepscounselling.co.uk
I offer face to face therapy to adults and young adults 16+ from a comfortable cabin within my own garden in Bearsted, just outside of Maidstone, Kent. If you feel comfortable with counselling from the security and comfort of your own home I can offer you this via Zoom or telephone.
Please contact me to arrange a friendly, informal chat where we can talk about your needs, hopes and expectations from counselling and how we might be able to work together in a way that offers you comfort and reassurance.
Practice description
You will receive a friendly, warm welcome each and every session. No judgement about things you might share, things you might have done have done or how you feel - just accepting you for who you are, whatever that may be.
Together we will work out the ideal frequency of your sessions that works for us both (although weekly for at least the first 4-6 weeks tends to be most beneficial for the working relationship and for your progress/change moving forward).
If I don't feel I am the best person to support you I will say so. You are the most important person in the room and your safety and progress is of utmost importance to me. If I am unable to support you I will likely refer you back to the BACP Directory or to a colleague if I feel they may be able to help.
I encourage you not to feel ashamed or alone. So many are struggling right now in one way or another. Taking the first step can often be the hardest, but the best thing you can do for your future happiness and well-being.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
*Face to face work in the Maidstone area of Kent only. Zoom and telephone UK wide.
My first session
Prior to our first session, we will arrange a short telephone or online call for you to share your reasons for seeking counselling and for us to explore if I am the best person to support you. If we both feel we can work together we will schedule a mutually agreed time and date. Payment is required at least 48 hours prior to our first meeting and I will email you a Working Agreement which outlines my responsibilities to you as your counsellor and yours to me as a client in terms of payment, cancellations etc.
We will use our first session as an opportunity to explore your worries and concerns in more depth and agree a focus for therapy moving forward based on what feels best for you.
