About me and my therapy practice

Perhaps life has thrown you a curve ball you're finding it difficult to cope with. Maybe change is on the horizon and you're wondering how you will manage and what your new life will look and feel like. As an integrative counsellor, I am here to listen so you are truly heard and understood. You may need help coming to terms with an upsetting event or support moving into a different chapter of your life. Perhaps there has been an ending causing feelings of grief, loss, loneliness and isolation. Sometimes we can't figure out why we feel the way we do, we just want it to stop. Talking things through with someone empathetic and supportive can help you realise your strengths, provide clarity and reduce feelings of distress. The therapy I provide also aims to help you make sense of past events and the right path for you now.

I create a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to support you through difficult times and increase your confidence to live a life you choose for yourself.

When you are ready to share what's on your mind, I am here to help. Together we can focus on your strengths, making sense of your world and change if desired. Together we can find a way forward that is right for you.

I trained with CONEL and qualified with a B A (Hons) counselling degree from Middlesex University. I also have an FdA in person centred counselling. I am trained in aspects of psychodynamic therapy as part of my degree and have a level 6 equivalent short course in understanding autism, Asperger's and ADHD from Derby University. I am experienced in working with anxiety, depression, bereavement and relationships as well as narcissism. I also work with a range of other issues.

I have specific interests in working with women going through all stages of the menopause. I also work towards creating an environment that removes barriers for men seeking help. I support the use of nutrition, nature and the outdoors to help manage and reduce mental health problems along with exercise.

Practice description

Please feel free to contact me to discuss concessionary rates. I offer concessions to trainee counsellors and young people aged 18 - 25.

My professional membership is with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I follow the BACP ethical framework. I have professional liability insurance and am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) in line with GDPR.

My first session

Sometimes we could do with a little help deciding if counselling is right for us. We may need some help to figure out what type of counselling and counsellor best fits who we are and our concerns. I offer a free 15 to 30 minute telephone consultation to help you decide if the therapy I provide and my way of being is right for you and your needs. This consultation is also for me to begin to understand your reasons for seeking help.

At the beginning of our first session, should you decide to go ahead with counselling, I will explain how our therapy will work. We will look at some counselling documents such as the counselling agreement and client contact details and lifestyle form. This is to aid the counselling process and help keep you safe. Opportunity is given to ask questions if there is anything you would like clarification on. If you feel comfortable, the rest of the session is there for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what is troubling you.

My first session

Sometimes we could do with a little help deciding if counselling is right for us and working out what type of counselling and counsellor best fits who we are and our concerns. The first session is an initial assessment session. This is to help you decide if the therapy I provide and my way of being is right for you and your needs. This session is also for me to begin to understand your reasons for seeking help. Initial assessment sessions are in-person or online and 50 minutes in duration. My usual session fee applies.

At the beginning of the initial assessment session, I will explain how our counselling will work and introduce the modalities I work with. Opportunity is given to ask questions if there is anything you would like clarification on. If you feel comfortable, the rest of the session is there for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what is troubling you.

Following this, you may decide to go ahead with some counselling sessions or prefer to take some time to decide.

Alternatively, you may prefer a free 15 to 30 minute telephone consultation.

At the beginning of the first therapy session, we will look at some counselling documents such as the counselling agreement and client contact details and lifestyle form. This is to aid the counselling process and help keep you safe.
