About me and my therapy practice
My name is Luke Smith and I am a qualified integrative counsellor (MBACP) and EMDR Therapist. I have experience working in the NHS, educational settings and the charity sector, helping clients with various needs to overcome difficulties in their lives and improve their mental health. I have a true passion for helping those who struggle with their mental health and treat it as a huge honour and privilege when people choose to put their trust in me to do so. I have been in clinical practice since 2020 and have over 18 years of experience working with people who are seeking to improve their mental health.
Practice description
As an integrative counsellor, I help people process thoughts and feelings to enable them to become the best version of themselves.
I recognise that everyone is different and they are treated as such. Working in a way that suits you and your needs, we will use an approach that is best suited to you as an individual. This may involve exploring past experiences, behaviours, and thought processes while looking at your mental health. We will work together to develop strategies that will allow you to move forward from issues that may be affecting you.
I am qualified in integrative counselling, which draws on different modalities that can be tailored to your needs. As we are all different, we all require a different approach. I am fully trained in the following modalities: Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy. In addition to this, I obtained a degree in Teaching and Learning Support (2012).
I am also qualified in EMDR therapy at Post Graduate Certificate level 7 from Worcester University (2023)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based experiential treatment that is extremely effective at treating trauma. It uses bilateral stimulation to help people process memories. EMDR is recommended by NICE for the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions
My first session
The process begins with an initial free assessment via telephone which will last no longer than 20 minutes. This enables us to discuss why you are considering therapy and establish whether you think I am the right therapist for you. We will then agree on a time and place to start your therapy sessions.
Sessions can be conducted over the telephone, via Zoom, or through face-to-face therapy at my clinic in Stourbridge.
