About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome to Ferndown Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
I'm Steph Wadie (She/Her) an integrative and LGBT friendly counsellor based in Newcastle-under-Lyme (Staffordshire).
At times life can be difficult and choosing to engage in counselling takes courage. I believe we all have our own lived experiences, and you are the only person who knows how that feels. I am committed to working together at your own pace to understand what is going on, to actively listen and ensure you feel heard. It can be good to speak in confidence to someone impartial, who can listen without judgement, accept, and value you for who you are.
Therapy can help you develop an understanding of what is bothering you or causing distress, even when there is not an obvious reason. Through the counselling process I will aim to help you express your feelings and explore your experiences.
Practice description
You are able to discuss whatever is important to you on the day, there is no set agenda for the sessions, the time is yours. Often behind the presenting problem, there is an underlying cause and this is something we can explore together.
My integrative approach includes psychodynamic, attachment and systemic therapy which simply means I use several models in my therapeutic practice and tailor them to your individual needs.
I have experience working in the following areas:-
Anxiety, depression, stress and panic attacks
Adapting to life changes; job, redundancy, empty nest, fertility and menopause, living with a chronic health condition.
Bereavement, grief and loss
Cancer & Dementia
Feelings of isolation and loneliness
Issues around Identity, acceptance and confidence
Neurodiversity
Relationships for individuals, couples or twos
Self esteem and self-compassion
My private practice has onsite parking, wheelchair access and toilet facilities.
My first session
After you have contacted me, we can arrange a call so I can get at a sense of what you're looking for from sessions and whether my way of working is what you're looking for.
If you decide that we are the right fit an email confirming your initial appointment will be sent to you with a copy of my contract and privacy notice.
The initial session (assessment) is guided up to 90 minutes. It is an opportunity to discuss what has bought you to counselling and what you would like to achieve from it. We will discuss how we can work safely and effectively together and will explore the contract.
