“Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every relationship you have” Robert Holden

Welcome to Ferndown Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a private and LGBTQ+ friendly practice based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

I’m Steph Wadie (She/Her) an integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My integrative approach focuses on psychodynamics, attachment, transactional analysis, and systemic therapy which can help with the presenting issue but also understanding how past experiences can inform the present. Counselling and psychotherapy are tailored to each individual’s needs.

I work with adults and offer both short term and long term therapy for individuals and couples. Appointments are available either face to face or by telephone for individuals and face to face only for couples. Flexible appointments are available, with options of Saturdays and evenings during the week.

About me and my therapy practice

Individual & Couples Counselling

My interest lies with relationships, the one’s we have with ourselves, and those we have with others; friends, family, partners (romantic or intimate), colleagues at work. The way these influence our way of thinking, interacting and the way we present ourselves to the world. These may be causing stress, anxiety, or depression.

Issues may arise from internal power struggles (conflict) when our own morals, and values don’t align with external influences or when we are faced with life-changing events. These may leave us with feelings of anger, guilt, shame, isolation and being misunderstood.

Working together in therapy can lead to better relationships, identify, and find solutions to specific problems, help reduce feelings of distress and develop new ways of communicating.

Counselling and psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy are ways of understanding the human mind and reactions to life events. They provide a safe, confidential space for you to talk about your issues and concerns. A therapeutic alliance is built up on respect and trust so thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be explored safely, and a better understanding of yourself and others developed.

I am committed to working together at your own pace to understand what is going on, to actively listen and ensure you feel heard. It can be beneficial to speak to speak in confidence to someone impartial, who can listen without judgment, accept, and value you for who you are.

Couples counselling

The benefits of couples counselling include: -

  • Better communication
  • Identifying issues and resolving them within a safe environment
  • Hearing and understanding each other’s needs without anger or resentment.
  •  Feeling valued and finding a deeper connection.
  • Renewed physical and emotional intimacy.
  • Understanding each other’s needs.
  • Help to establish whether you can continue with the relationship and for those who decide to end, how to end on the best terms possible.

Practice description

You are able to discuss whatever is important to you on the day, there is no set agenda for the sessions, the time is yours. Often behind the presenting problem, there is an underlying cause and this is something we can explore together.

I have experience working in the following areas: -

  • Anxiety, depression, stress, and panic attacks
  • Adapting to life changes; job, redundancy, empty nest, fertility, and menopause, living with a chronic health condition.
  • Bereavement, grief, and loss
  • Cancer & Dementia
  • Couples Counselling
  • Feelings of isolation and loneliness
  • Fetishes and Kink
  • Issues around Identity, acceptance, and confidence
  • Neurodiversity
  • Relationships for individuals, couples, or twos
  • Self-esteem and self-compassion
  • Sex-related issues

These have been with both short and long-term clients.

The Next Step

If you’ve read through my profile and think I may be a good fit for you, then please get in touch.
