About me and my therapy practice
I have a strong appreciation for how difficult life can be at times. Painful experiences often make it impossible for us to see through problems and move forward.
The aim of a good therapist is to give us tools to be our own ‘compass’ through stormy weathers … By nurturing and accepting the ‘Humanity’ in ourselves, we learn to accept the ‘Humanity’ of others. Once we start to become gentler towards ourselves, accepting how we truly are, we are able to listen to our inner voice and make the adjustments we eventually need.
Allow me to introduce myself: I am a father, a son, a husband, a brother, a good friend, a counsellor and psychotherapist.
I graduated from a BACP Accredited Institution, from which I was given an Outstanding Personal Development Award. After this, I went on to setting up my own private practice:
https://www.hdcpsychotherapy.com/
I currently provide counselling services to MIND – a large Mental Health Charity in the UK, as well as seeing clients privately. I am BACP Registered and adhere strictly to their Ethical Framework guidelines.
Prior to working as a counsellor/psychotherapist, I obtained a degree in Law and a Masters in Business Administration, having worked in the corporate field for over 25 years.
I am fluent in English and Portuguese.
Practice description
The approach I offer is of an integrative nature and it is totally dependent on the needs of my clients. A psychotherapist, in my opinion, needs to be a skilled craftsman, ‘sensing’ the client and offering what they better respond to. My areas of study are: Humanistic, Psychodynamic, CBT and Existential.
I also incorporate aspects of Dr. Gabor Maté's 'Compassionate Inquiry' Approach into my practice; having attended a number of his workshops, including the 'Compassionate Inquiry Approach to Mental Health and Physical Ilnesses' led by himself.
My first session
Free consultation (15 Minutes)

Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Addictions, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Career coaching, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Development coaching, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Life coaching, Loss, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Obsessions, OCD, Personal development, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Self esteem, Self-harm, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Vegan allied

We know that cost is still one of the main deterrents stopping people from accessing counselling/psychotherapy. HDC aims to offer affordable counselling as an option for people who feel they would benefit from therapy, but are not able to afford one-to-one sessions.
An effective way of doing this is via Group Therapy. This can happen by grouping people who, after an initial assessment session, are considered suitable for working with one another.
Some groups are designed to work on a specific type of issue (depression, obesity, anxiety attacks, addiction, etc) whilst other groups have as a focus more general issues (such as how to develop a way of dealing with life, lack of self-esteem, loss, etc)
I am currently forming small groups at the rate of £35 per session.
Maximum of 4 participants per group.
Sessions are via Zoom.
