About me and my therapy practice
I am highly skilled at working with a wide range of mental health difficulties; these could be anxiety or depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, low self-esteem and more. I have worked with many people whose lives have been affected by substance use, domestic abuse, sexual harm, bereavement and loss, and relationship difficulties.
I am trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, meaning that I use the 3 main schools of therapy; Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Practice description
I have extensive experience spanning 15 years of working with and supporting people who have lived through profound trauma. During this time, I have developed a deep understanding of how to help individuals navigate through their emotional pain.
Working with emotional trauma and life’s challenges as a counsellor requires a gentle and empathetic approach. I believe it is important to support people to make sense of and understand their own challenges, to make meaning from what has happened. We can start to notice patterns that may have been adopted and to identify how this presents itself in choices and behaviours or identify where it may be repeating in current relationships. It may be that you just don’t feel that life is moving in the direction you hoped for, or you feel dissatisfied. We can work in the past, present or future. I will be guided by you, but we will work together.
I want to support you in the best way that I can. I will work hard alongside you to learn about how trauma or life’s challenges affect your day to day living and I will help you to develop coping strategies to help move you forwards with your future. I am here to provide the support and guidance needed to navigate through these challenging experiences.
My first session
I understand it can be scary contacting a counsellor, so I offer a free initial 20 minute phone call or a video call so we can introduce ourselves to each other and I can answer any questions you may have.
Appointments are flexible to meet your needs; this could mean meeting weekly or fortnightly. We can meet in person or online. Please don’t feel obligated to book further sessions after we first meet – it’s important you find the right therapist for you.
All sessions are 50 minutes long.
