About me and my therapy practice
You may be suffering from a loss, struggling with events from your past, or troubled by certain relationships. Or perhaps life has thrown you a curve ball such as divorce, separation or redundancy and life just seems very difficult to cope with. You may feel as though you have lost your purpose and meaning in life as a result of retirement or children leaving home. Perhaps these issues have raised emotions you feel are taking over your everyday life and you are full of anxiety or are suffering from low mood. Not wanting to burden others you could be experiencing feelings of isolation. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to bringing about change and that working together could help you gain insights into what may help you to produce change, as well as gain some resilience to cope with what lies ahead. Therapy requires commitment and hard work, and taking that first step can be daunting. Yet each one of us has the capacity and ability to explore difficulties, so that over time you will be empowered to face life's current and future challenges, staying true to your values and beliefs. Even the first session can start to nurture small changes. I won't provide solutions, or give advice, as you know yourself best and what you are going through, but I can listen with warmth and empathy, and help you to find the way out of what is causing your pain, stress or anxiety.
Practice description
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist, registered with the BACP, and adhere to their ethical framework. I work with adults and young people aged 16+ from my practice office in Denby Dale.
I have worked with clients with varying levels of counselling needs. I have provided counselling for a bereavement service, and currently volunteer as a counsellor at a charitable organisation, helping clients to explore past relationships, loss, anxiety, low self-esteem, abuse, trauma and anger management.
I spent many years as an academic at a University and I am currently a counsellor in a sixth form college so I have an awareness of the pressures young people face and the ways in which these can affect their lives.
