About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor, using a combination of therapeutic approaches to support adults and young people with a range of problems, including:
* anxiety
* OCD
* depression
* trauma
* domestic abuse
* relationship problems
* divorce
* low self-esteem
* menopause
* suicidal ideation
* bereavement
* neurodivergence
I understand that it can be difficult to talk about what's bothering you, particularly if you are feeling overwhelmed or confused. Taking the first step towards healing and contacting a therapist can be daunting. Once you feel ready to engage with the process of counselling, I offer a non-judgemental space in which you can safely explore your problems, discover new ways of coping with life's challenges and move towards a more fulfilled way of being.
My additional training in ecotherapy and Equine Facilitated Learning enables me to offer a selection of settings, from walk-and-talk counselling to therapy with horses and room-based counselling, so you can choose which approach feels right for you.
Practice description
I believe that each one of us has a natural ability to heal ourselves and I honour your automony by working empathically and openly with you to help you develop greater self-awareness and tap into your inner wisdom.
I am guided by the BACP's Framework for Ethical Practice, offering a non-judgemental, trustworthy and respectful therapeutic relationship in which you can safely explore the issues that are preventing you from living a fulfilling life.
Therapy is a process and I work closely with you, applying my experience and training to support you in dealing with the challenges you are facing. Clients are often surprised at how helpful it can be to feel truly heard by someone they can trust and have the freedom to talk openly about things. Therapy unravels at your own pace, allowing you to take the time you need to start healing.
We regularly review how your therapy is progressing, to monitor the impact and identify areas which might need more focus.
My first session
During the first session, I ask you to complete an assessment form. This provides me with historical information, emergency contact details, relevant health information (such as prescribed medication), presenting issues and identifies what you would like to address in counselling.
The first session is an opportunity for me to gain an understanding of what is bothering you and to discuss which approach might be most helpful for you. It gives you a chance to meet me in person, ask any questions you might have about how I work and decide whether I am someone whom you feel comfortable working with.
We will sign a Counselling Agreement, which explains what we can expect from one another in the therapeutic relationship and what notice is required for cancelling sessions or ending therapy.
