About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Ross, an experienced psychotherapist providing 121 therapy in Worthing and Brighton. I work with both individuals and couples.

I don’t believe therapy should be mysterious or intimidating. My style of therapy is warm, honest and human; I like to be transparent about the process and I invite you to comment and ask questions about the way we are working.

Together we will embark upon a process of radical reflection - this will enable you to see more clearly the parts of your life which are blocking you from reaching your full potential. Although the content of what we talk about may sometimes be painful, therapy can also at times be playful, creative and joyful.

Maybe you’re having difficulties in relationships or struggling with anxiety or depression; perhaps you’re recovering from childhood trauma or you’re searching for more meaning in your life. Therapy can help you to address these challenging aspects while moving closer towards specific goals. It is my role to guide you along this journey in a manner that is collaborative and respectful.

If you're feeling stuck or confused, therapy can provide a new perspective and unlock healthier ways to live.

Relationship Counselling

Couples therapy provides a safe space for you and your partner. It allows you to see things from the other’s perspective, and can clarify how you really feel within the relationship.

Effective communication is at the heart of a loving relationship. Therapy can shed light on the obstacles to good communication and helps you to safely navigate areas of conflict or compromise.

What dynamics are at play? Do you have a particular attachment style? Are other relationships or priorities getting in the way?

In time, couples therapy can improve intimacy by allowing a better understanding of self and other.

Practice description

I am trained existentially - which means that my approach is broadly philosophical although my work is also informed by the insights of contemporary psychoanalysis.

Existential therapy engages with our emotional response to life and encourages us to take responsibility for what happens next. This type of therapy is an invitation to reflect on our choices, assumptions and beliefs.

My first session

The first session is an initial consultation in which we discuss what has brought you to therapy. I may ask questions about your background and home life growing up. I will also ask what you want to achieve with therapy and any previous experience you've had with therapy to understand what has - and hasn't - been helpful.

The meeting will also give you an opportunity to see what you think of me, and whether you would like to work together.
