About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Susie, a friendly psychotherapist who has experience of working with a diverse range of clients within a confidential environment. For me, the heart of counselling is a good relationship between client and counsellor. This helps to create a safe and respectful setting for exploration, reflection and understanding of what is important to you. As we are all individual and unique, people will naturally need different things from counselling. I use an integrative, person-centred approach which means that we can work together in a way which best suits you, drawing from different techniques which will support you through the process. I will help you to reflect and explore to find your own solutions and your own methods of overcoming challenges. In our sessions, my main priority is to cultivate an environment where you feel truly heard, valued, and empowered. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where we work side by side to identify and pursue your unique goals. My approach is all about creating a secure, supportive and non-judgemental space, allowing you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels comfortable for you.
I have previously been involved in Education for 26 years, so have many years of experience with teachers and young people. I currently work therapeutically, two days in a school with young people from age 7 to 19. I also have my own private practice which is predominantly with adults. When available, I have been fortunate to have been involved with the BACP Expert Reference Group for Children and Young People which has given insight into good practice.
I also have experience of working with neurodivergent clients and my training and clinical experience has supported people with anxiety, trauma, bereavement, OCD, loss of identity, low self-confidence, suicidal ideation, struggles with relationships both with self and others (this is not a comprehensive list). Please reach out if you have got this far.
Practice description
All sessions last an hour and will be by telephone or online via Teams. I believe that it is essential to have a good working relationship. This is about you feeling comfortable and that we can work collaboratively together moving forward. The first session will be a chance for us to ascertain what you would like from the sessions, and we will complete some aspects that will hold a safe space for you. If you choose to book in a session, I will send out an assessment form and consent form. I encourage clients to book weekly or block book the sessions so there is continuity in our work. I can do both short and long-term work, and we will go at your pace and gauge how you feel as we progress. We will agree to a working contract to ensure that I am working professionally and abide by the BACP ethical framework for good practice which state that a contract should be in place before work commences. The key is that you feel comfortable, and we can form a positive therapeutic relationship where you feel heard in the space we have together.
