About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Johanne. I am a qualified Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.   Are you facing a situation where your usual ways of coping are no longer working?  Maybe your relationships with others have been affected or you are no longer able to do the things that are important or enjoyable for you?  I offer short and longer term sessions where we can explore your areas of concern and work at a pace that suits your needs.

Practice description

Clients have said that they find my approach to be warm, calm and non-judgemental.  I work in a collaborative way and rather than provide “answers”, aim to help you find a way forward that is right for you.  I believe that a relationship built on trust is an important stepping stone towards achieving this and treat each client with respect, paying empathic attention to what matters to them.

I have trained in Humanistic Integrative Counselling which means I have a number of techniques and tools to draw upon, and together we can identify what works best for you.  I don’t hold a fixed idea of what “success” looks like, experience has shown me that the outcome of counselling will be different for each person. Sometimes the result is a greater understanding of yourself, your reactions and your relationships with others.  Other times the focus has been on making changes in order to achieve different outcomes.  I would hold regular reviews with you as a way of ensuring that we stay on track

I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, some of which include managing the impact of long-term health conditions, terminal illnesses, bereavement, grief & anticipatory grief, carer and parent-carer issues, anxiety, depression, loss of confidence, low self-esteem.  I undertake regular training to ensure I am working in accordance with latest information and guidelines.

My first session

Finding a counsellor who is the right fit is important and to help you with this, I offer a free 30 minute introductory phone or Zoom consultation in order to discuss your needs and answer any questions you have about me.  You won’t need to make a decision at this point.

If we decide to go ahead, the next step would be an assessment session which involves taking some information from you, discussing your aims for counselling in more detail and agreeing how we will work together.  I would send you the paperwork needed for this, in advance of the session.

I hold in-person sessions in a bespoke therapy room that is well served for public transport and parking.  Telephone and Zoom sessions are also available.

Each session lasts for 50 minutes at a cost of £50.00.  Payments can be made via BACS.
