Practice description
Hi, my name is Rowena. I am a qualified and accredited (NCPS) CBT/REBT therapist.
About me
Having grown up with a parent who had difficulty managing their mental health, I wanted to understand and be able to alleviate the pain that came with that condition. I have a background in teaching Psychology and have spent over 10 years working in mental health services. I still work with Mind where, in the past, I have had specific responsibilities for Carers' Support. I am an Autism Ambassador. I worked on a voluntary basis within Solent NHS’ Talking Change service for 18 months whilst completing my CBT/REBT training.
What does CBT/REBT mean?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a short-term therapy to build awareness of how thoughts, behaviours and feelings all impact on each other. CBT asks you to challenge your thoughts.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is a form of CBT which first asks how you are experiencing your emotions. Emotions are the body’s way of prompting you to act. Feeling sad if you have a loss, angry if frustrated, anxious if under threat is quite normal and therapy is not required if these emotions pass when the situation passes. REBT helps deal with emotions that have outlived their purpose and that leave you stuck.
The techniques are well-structured, easily taught and enable you to become your own therapist as you experience emotions throughout life. Although focusing on current experiences, REBT can help you uncover underlying beliefs that were set in childhood and continue to trip you up today.
Having worked with Mind for over 10 years now, I have experience of other therapies too. The REBT Integrative course enabled me to apply these therapies within an REBT framework so I am able to select appropriate tools and strategies for individual needs.

My first session
I find the first session is, by necessity, a getting to know each other session. By carrying out a short assessment we can gauge how we feel about working together. I will be happy to answer any questions you have about how we will work together. It is important we both feel comfortable enough to be open to share information and receive feedback. What I can help with
