About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Shelley and as a counsellor I am hugely passionate about helping people to navigate difficult periods in their life. It is my aim to offer you a calm and comforting space in my home that has a dedicated counselling room providing all my clients comfort and safety. My role as a counsellor is to help you explore issues and feelings present and past that effect you in your daily life.
I am a warm, approachable and understanding person who listens in a supportive and non-judgemental way, enabling you feel confident to resolve issues and difficult situations.
I work as a person centred therapist. I believe that talking is powerful and enables you open yourself up to making changes. I feel privileged to be the person to support my clients through difficult times.
I have worked with both adults and children and young people in a school setting for over 14 years’ offering both counselling and coaching skills to parents struggling with their children's behaviour and school staff managing the daily challenges of school life, and their own personal life. This way my work can be holistic working with the child and adults around them.
I work with all my clients to help you to rediscover a sense of wellbeing and peace.
Practice description
My practice is warm, safe and a comforting environment, in my home. The space is confidential, allowing you to be open about your issues knowing that you won't be disturbed or overheard. The room is on ground level, situated by the front door to ensure openness and easy accessibility.
I am a person centred counsellor, this approach works to understand an individual’s experience from their perspective.
My first session
An initial session is the start of the journey of getting to know each other, building the trust you need to talk about anything you wish to, there is no pressure from me to discuss anything you do not want to.
For many of my clients the decision to start any talking therapy can be overwhelming and a bit daunting, and for a therapist, I too can feel a little apprehensive with each new client I meet, wanting the best for them on their journey. However these feelings do not last long and I can reassure you that after the first few minutes the overwhelming feelings melt away.
I am friendly and down to earth and always try my best to put my clients at ease, I therefore offer all clients who wish to a free telephone consultation to have a chat before they make the decision to start sessions. Any questions or concerns you have can be discussed at this stage.
