About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced and BACP accredited therapist who adheres to the BACP Ethical Framework.
I offer a warm, non-judgemental and safe environment in which you can explore what has happened to you and how it is affecting you.We will work at a pace and depth that feels comfortable for you. I work holistically, taking into account your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, and will seek to understand how your difficulties are impacting your wider life.
I use a combination of therapeutic approaches in an informed way to help you to make sense of your experiences and help you to determine what and how you would like to change, so you can move forward in life. For therapy to be effective there may be times when I need to gently challenge you, but I will always support you as we work through those things that are difficult for you.
I offer both short and long term therapy. I am privileged to have experience in working with a wide range of problems, including relationship issues (family dynamics, separation, divorce and bereavement), anxiety, depression, shame and unhelpful behavioural choices. I am a qualified trauma practitioner and support clients who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse and violence, bullying, traumatic illness or injury or where life's challenges have built up so that they now feel overwhelming. Having enjoyed a long career in HR I also work with workplace stress, bullying and other work-related problems. You will feel heard, understood and supported as you work through your experiences.
I offer a free 30 minute consultation on Zoom to see if we will be a 'good fit'. To arrange this please email me at lynn.hickman63@orotinmail.com or via the contact form on my website:

Practice description
Having completed comprehensive training in online therapy, I am currently working online via Zoom. This enables me to work with clients beyond my geographic locality and also offers greater flexibility in the timing of sessions.
Each session is 50 minutes long. At the initial session I complete an important assessment which covers significant health issues, your general wellbeing and your hopes for therapy. I will involve you in the therapeutic decision making process on an ongoing basis and I carry out regular reviews so I can understand what you are finding helpful and what you might like to do differently. Your feedback is an essential part of the therapeutic process.
As your counselling draws to its conclusion I will explore with you what ending means for you and how you would like the ending process to be.
It is important that you choose the right therapist for you. Please do contact me for a free initial consultation if you think I might be able to help you.
My first session
I offer a free initial 30 minute session so we can meet each other and decide if we will be a 'good fit'.
If you then decide that you would like to proceed with therapy, I will send you my counselling contract. If you are happy with this we will begin our formal sessions.
In the first session I will conduct the assessment and explain how I will hold your data and rights to confidentiality. You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions or explore any worries or concerns that you might have about the counselling process.
