About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced and BACP accredited therapist.

I offer a warm, non-judgemental and safe environment in which you can explore what has happened to you and how it is affecting you. We will work at a pace and depth that feels comfortable for you.  I work holistically, taking into account your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, and will seek to understand how your difficulties are impacting your wider life.

I use a combination of therapeutic approaches in an informed way to help you make sense of your experiences and to help you determine what and how you would like to change, so can you can move forward in life. For therapy to be effective there may be times when I need to gently challenge you, but I will always support you as we work through those things  that are difficult for you.

I offer both short and long term therapy. I am privileged to have experience in working with a wide range of problems, including relationship issues (family dynamics, separation, divorce and bereavement), anxiety, depression, shame and unhelpful behavioural choices. I am a qualified trauma practitioner and support clients who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse and violence, bullying, traumatic illness or injury or where life challenges have built up over time so that they now feel overwhelming. You will feel  heard, understood and supported as you work through your experiences.

I offer a free 30 minute consultation on Zoom to see if we will be a 'good fit'.  To arrange this email me at lynn.hickman63@protonmail.com. My website https://www.ridethewavescounselling.co.uk also contains a contact form.

Practice description

Having completed comprehensive training in online therapy, I am currently working online via Zoom. This allows me to work with clients who live beyond my geographical locality and also offers flexibility in the timing of sessions.

Each session is 50 minutes long. At the initial session I complete an important assessment which covers significant health issues, your general wellbeing and your hopes for therapy. I will involve you in the therapeutic decision making process on an ongoing basis, and I carry out regular reviews so I can understand what you are finding helpful and what you might like to do differently. Your feedback is an essential part of the therapeutic process.

As your counselling draws to its conclusion I will explore with you what ending means for you and how you would like the ending process to

It is important that you choose the therapist for you.  You can find out more about me from my website:

https://ridethewavescounselling.co.uk

You can also contact me for a free initial session to see if we might be a 'good fit'. I can be reached at my secure email address:  lynn.hickman63@protonmail.com.

My first session

I offer a free initial 30 minute initial session which offers an important opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you.

If you then decide that you would like to proceed with therapy, I will send you the counselling contract. If you are happy with this  we will begin our formal sessions.

In the first session I will conduct the assessment and explain how I will store your data and your rights to confidentiality. You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions or explore any worries or concerns that you might have about the counselling process.
