About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Tom, and I can offer a warm presence and a judgment-free and understanding environment in which any problem can be worked on collaboratively. I primarily see clients face-to-face within Leeds city centre, with online sessions also available.

I’m an integrative psychotherapist and I work with adults of all ages (18+). Please be aware my working days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

I know how difficult it can feel when trying to choose a therapist, scrolling down a list of faces wondering who can actually help. It can feel confusing to know what you really need, but for me it felt important to find someone who I could trust and feel accepted by.

I offer a confidential environment where you can bring any problem. Everything can go at your pace, and in a way that helps you feel safe and taken seriously. The process of therapy is different for everyone, but my overall aim is to allow you to explore what is happening and navigate a way forward with greater understanding and empowerment.

Practice description

As an integrative therapist I am trained to use a variety of therapeutic approaches to help meet your individual needs. This means the nature of the sessions is tailored to each client, but throughout all of my work I have a humanistic and relational focus. This puts you in control, as I believe you are the expert of yourself and my role is to aid your awareness and autonomy. It is also my belief that a strong client-therapist relationship is the most important aspect of therapy, and through our relationship you can be supported to have greater understanding about dynamics that play out within yourself and also with friends and family.

I have experience working therapeutically with individuals of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist I had two years’ experience at the suicide prevention charity Samaritans, befriending the terminally ill through Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, and helping rehabilitate convicted individuals through Re:shape (Re: Sexual Harm Awareness, Prevention & Education). I think it is important for therapy to be accessible and open to all, regardless of gender, sexuality and race, as no one is spared from facing difficulty in their lives. To help therapy be more accessible I make 20% of my slots available with concession rates to students and individuals receiving Universal Credit.

My first session

As an initial contact I offer a fifteen minute consultation to begin to get to know each other. This is free of charge and can be done either online or over the phone. It is an opportunity for you to express what it is you want from therapy and I will also be able to get a sense of whether I am able to help you. Alternatively, if you prefer, our first contact can be face-to-face during a full session of 50 minutes.

What I can help with
