About me and my therapy practice
Hello, and welcome to my profile page! Whether this is your first search for a counsellor, or you've been through this process before, I hope the information provided here will give you a sense of who I am, how I work, and whether I can provide what you are looking for.
I believe, and the research shows, how important it is for you to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with and that you can trust. That is why I offer a free initial session or phone call to see if we could be a good fit to work together.
I have significant counselling experience, working face-to-face or online/telephone working on a short-term or longer term basis. I abide by the BACP code of ethics and am committed to be in service to you the client. I work from an LGBTQIA+ affirmative position, and I want to encourage each of us to be truly who we are, embracing our differences and unique selves.
Currently I see us living in a world where mental health challenges are affecting us all in different ways: we are living in a time of particular uncertainty and difficulty, and are still recovering from the impacts of the global pandemic. Wherever you are at right now, however hard and painful things may be, there is hope that things can ease and that you can find your true self again.
Practice description
My work is grounded in the person-centred approach, which means that I believe in your own inner resources and ability for growth and change. The content and direction of the work will therefore come from you. We will work collaboratively to explore what you want to discuss. My role is to support you and provide a safe, warm and confidential space to explore what's bothering you.
I have experience of working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem, life changes, neurodiversity (ADHD/Autism), relationship issues or breakdown, and identity exploration.
I encourage you to commit to counselling by bringing yourself as you are and keeping regular appointments, as this contributes to its effectiveness. Each person is unique and therefore the counselling I offer will be tailored to meet you.
I expect you will have questions about how to use the counselling space, etc and I'm happy to answer any questions that you have. Feel free to message me if you like. It can be useful to understand at the outset how you'd like to work, for example more structured sessions or more free flowing. I support using check-ins in our work to ensure you are getting what you need from counselling and that we are working collaboratively on what you want to focus on.
If what you read here matches with what you'd like from counselling, I look forward to hearing from you and arranging a time to meet. Contact me via email jennpaynegregory@gmail.com.
