Availability
I offer an initial 15 minute telephone conversation free of charge for an initial chat about why you are seeking therapy and would like from it. It helps us see if we are able to work together and to arrange an initial session to meet. We will work for 6 sessions initially and then review whether the therapy is working for you and negotiate to continue, or not.
I offer daytime and evening appointments in person at the Therapy Centre in Reading or on Zoom.
I currently have availability for day time and some evening sessions on a Thursday or Friday.
The Therapy Centre is at 6b Church Street, off London Street in Reading. There is free parking available locally in the evenings or local pay and display car parks, as well as bus routes that stop close by.
About me and my therapy practice
As an integrative counsellor, I use different therapeutic approaches, to help support what we are working with. Therapy is a place to come and talk about your life, in a non-judgemental, holding space, to explore what is happening for you, to understand more about yourself, to have a space to explore ways through any difficulties. For this, as well as talking we may explore stories or films that have meaning for you, music, drawing or imagination, exploring ways of looking at a situation that can bring different ideas to help and expand self-awareness or knowledge.
Practice description
I provide a confidential, contained, safe space for you to come and talk about what is impacting your life, to support you in exploring what is happening and bringing more understanding of the situation.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes and we arrange a regular day and time for our sessions. I will take some personal history to get a wider picture of your life and we begin to explore what is bringing you to therapy now. I also provide you with my contract, an agreement between us that specifies our session times and also more around how I work.
The aim of working together is to give you a regular space without judgement, to help bring greater understanding and awareness of an issue through our exploring, to support you in finding your own solutions.
There may be past events that are still upsetting for you, or you may want to explore a choice you need to make and think through the options. Therapy is not necessarily about being in a crisis, it can be to find some space to think aloud in a busy world, to understand more about who you are and the direction you would like your life to take. It can be short or longer term, something we regularly evaluate as we work together.
As a member of the BACP, I work in accordance with their Code of Ethics.
My first session
If you are considering therapy, I offer a 15 minute initial conversation free of charge, to have a chat about why you are looking for therapy and to see if you would like to meet for an initial session.
The first session includes my taking a brief history, including if you have had previous counselling, any health conditions or medication you are taking, GP details and an emergency contact. I will also send you a copy of my counselling contract. This needs to be signed by both of us. It outlines details of how I work and our session day and time. At the end of the session, we can decide if we wish to continue and how many sessions to meet for initially, this can be reviewed and extended as we work together.
I offer counselling either in person in Reading or on Zoom.
