About me and my therapy practice

Navigating the complexities of bipolar disorder is a unique journey—one that can benefit profoundly from therapy grounded in self-awareness, acceptance, and personal growth. I’m Mal, a Gestalt and humanistic psychotherapist specializing in bipolar disorder and mood-related challenges. My approach emphasizes the whole person, focusing on the here-and-now experience and fostering a deepened awareness that leads to meaningful, lasting change.

Professional Background

In addition to private practice, I have provided counselling across various settings, including Minds Charity, the Polish Psychologist Association, and organisations such as Headway East London, where I supported individuals with acquired brain injuries. My experience extends to working with ex-offenders, individuals facing homelessness, and survivors of domestic violence.

Fully insured and registered with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

Practice description

My Approach

In our work together through Gestalt therapy, we’ll focus on enhancing your awareness of the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that come up in the moment. This can help you better understand the patterns in your life and make choices that genuinely support your well-being. My approach is profoundly humanistic and grounded in respect, empathy, and authenticity. We’ll explore together how bipolar disorder uniquely impacts your life, honouring your strengths and challenges. I’m here to help you find pathways toward stability and self-acceptance that feel empowering and true to who you are.

Areas of Focus

Bipolar Disorder: Exploring the interplay of mood cycles and developing tools for balance and self-care

Self-Awareness: Deepening understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and triggers in a safe, supportive space

Identity and Self-Esteem: Building a sense of self that remains stable and resilient through life’s ups and downs

Relationships and Boundaries: Strengthening communication and navigating relationships in ways that support your mental health

Authenticity and Growth: Cultivating self-acceptance and a sense of purpose that honours your unique journey

Background and Experience

With 8 years of experience in Gestalt and humanistic psychotherapy, I have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds dealing with the challenges of bipolar disorder. My therapeutic practice is based on the belief that each client has the potential for self-awareness, resilience, and growth. This person-centred approach allows us to build a strong, authentic therapeutic relationship essential to healing and transformation.

Therapy Options

I offer short-term and long-term therapy for individuals, as well as couples seeking to strengthen their support systems and understanding of bipolar disorder. Sessions are available online and in-person at [Location], with flexible scheduling options to suit your needs.

My first session

Begin Your Journey

Therapy offers a path to stability, self-understanding, and resilience in the face of bipolar disorder. I am here to work alongside you, helping you find grounding and growth. Reach out today, and let’s start building a path toward the meaningful change you’re looking for.

In an initial 30-minute meeting, we aim to explore whether working together suits us. Here’s what typically happens during this session:

I will share my approach and invite you to tell me about your decision to seek therapy. You’ll have the chance to ask about my background and experience.

During this time, we would discuss the therapy logistics, including session length, frequency, fees, and my policies on confidentiality and cancellations.

You’ll likely be asked about what brings you to therapy and the goals you hope to achieve. You don’t have to go into deep detail, but a general overview helps me understand what you’re looking for and how I might be able to support you.

By the end of the meeting, you and I will know whether we feel comfortable moving forward together. If we decide to proceed, we’ll also outline the next steps.

The initial meeting is designed to be a low-pressure, informative conversation that allows us both to gauge compatibility.

Finding the right therapeutic match is essential, and this brief session is an opportunity to see if I, as a therapist, am someone you feel comfortable working with on your journey.
