About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Julie Kirk
I am a Person Centered therapist working in the Leeds 15 area.
I started my counselling journey 8 years ago following 20 years supporting families within the inner city Leeds area. I could see the positive impact that counselling was having on the children and adults that I was working with and wanted to learn more. Initially I trained as a Person centered Therapist and then went on to complete a Degree in Counselling Solutions learning how to integrate different counselling theories into my work.
More recently I have trained with Cruse as a bereavement counsellor and volunteer whenever I can on their helpline.
I have been working in my own private practice for several years. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to play a part in my clients personal journeys as they strive to become a stronger, happier version of themselves.
Personally counselling has provided me with a lot of peace and stability and I believe that we all can benefit from talking about our difficult feelings.
Practice description
I believe that counselling is a process in which we seek to resolve the problems in our lives. It is a safe place for us to explore our thoughts and feelings. We all strive to be self-aware, content, have peace of mind, and to think and feel emotions with clarity and understanding. I have found that talking therapies has helped my clients come to terms and overcome their problems. It has enabled them to discuss their painful feelings and issues with me in a safe confidential space.
As a client centered therapist I work on the concept that every client is a unique . I believe that by having my clients individual needs at the heart of our work together maximizes the impact and personal growth made in our sessions together.
There is no set time for our work together. Some people find that they only need a few sessions with me , for others therapy can take a little longer. I am happy to support you however long your therapeutic journey takes you.
I will review my work with you every 6 weeks to ensure that you are getting what you need from our work together.

My first session
Prior to our first session you will have the opportunity to speak with me on the phone. I offer a free 20 minute telephone call where you can share with me your hopes for our work together. At this time you will be able to ask me any questions you would like to know about how l work. If we both feel that l am the right person for you l will invite you to an initial session with me.
If talking on the phone is difficult for you l am happy to connect with you via text or email. Whatever works best for you.
It is very normal to feel anxious prior to your first session with me. I will endeavor to do all I can to make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
At our initial session l will take some personal contacts details including your name, age address. I will also ask for your GP 's address and contact details for your next of kin. You will be given the opportunity to share with me any relevant family history and medical information.
Also at our initial session I will share with you my contract information. This includes:
-The ethical code and counselling modality that I work with.
-The timing and frequency of our proposed sessions
-My payment and cancellation policy
This is to ensure that I follow counselling guidelines that protect both your personal well-being and my professional standards.
This initial session is usually 60 minuets.
My normal session running time is 50 minuets
