About me and my therapy practice

Is low self-esteem holding you back? Maybe you don't feel heard. I'm here to listen and together we can look at how you find your voice again. You may feel you are not enough which may lead to increased anxiety as you withdraw from social situations. Does it feel like everyone else seems confident and that you are alone? I help people with feelings like this and who struggle with not feeling ‘enough’ and want to let you know you are not alone.

I work with clients in a way to help them recognise that 'wounded' part of their inner child, where you may be repeating patterns of behaviour that was learnt a long time ago in experiences from childhood, part of this work may be to unpack some of these long held beliefs and to reconnect with that part of you to help you to move forward.

I wonder if you have learnt that you need to be brave or strong for others and you find it hard to share how you are really feeling for fear of others judgement. I will work with you to explore where these feelings may come from and to unravel those myths and show you you don’t need to be strong all the time and we can explore together where this belief comes from in a safe and trusted space. Feeling that you need to be something for others and holding it all in can be exhausting. I want you to know that with me you can let go and unburden yourself, feel lighter, imagine coming to the sessions with a heavy pack back and unloading it here with me.

I have experience working with clients who have felt overwhelmed by their anxiety and feel that they are not enough. I have witnessed the potency of people feeling and being heard. Together we can work through those feelings so you feel empowered. Maybe some of these issues you have been dealing with have meant that to get to this point to start looking for support has taken courage, well done you are here.

I understand and in this space, together we can help you move forward and achieve the change you want.

Practice description

I am a humanistic integrative therapist which in essence means I will put you at the centre of all I do and will use different theories and skills to help you work through and unlock what has brought you to counselling.

As well as a qualified integrative therapist I am also an experienced cardiac nurse with an MSc in Cardiology and have worked in the NHS for many years. One of the reasons I trained in the counselling profession is as a result of working in clinical research where I was able to spend time with patients who felt able to share their stories. I saw how powerful it was for them to feel listened to.

It was here that going through my training and indeed my own therapy was when I began to see the efficacy of the safe space without judgement, and feeling able to openly share my innermost feelings with the therapist. To finally let go. The power of this is being able to allow yourself to be seen without the pretence that you are ok can be life-changing.

Whilst it may be hard and even painful sometimes if you can give yourself permission to stop holding the rewards are truly worthwhile. To acknowledge that you are not perfect and to love yourself as the person you have always been before you thought you had to be what the world wanted you to be.

I work with clients on an individual basis and as such the therapy is tailored around you to meet your needs. I am mindful that there is not a 'one size fits all' approach, we are all unique in our uniqueness. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) which means I work within their ethical principles and guidelines working with integrity and fidelity. I understand how difficult it is to reach out. You may worry you don't know what to say or that you will feel pushed or pressured and I want to reassure you we will go at your pace.
