About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Amy, I’m a therapeutic counsellor and I specialise in working with people who are struggling with anxiety.
Experiencing anxiety can be really scary, the fear and worry can be consuming and you may feel as though you will never have a sense of peace or calm in your life.
Perhaps you have found yourself avoiding situations that feel overwhelming or always thinking of the worst-case scenario, maybe you're experiencing panic attacks which has stopped you from doing things, or you feel like you obsess and overthink everything.
However fear and worry are showing up in your life I would love to help you get to a place where feel safe enough to be present in the here and now without those "what if?" thoughts taking over.
Part of my passion for supporting my clients with what I often call 'the fear of fear' comes from my personal experience of severe anxiety. I have been there and I completely understand how it feels to have anxiety take over your life, I offer my clients many of the tools and approaches which were effective for me. Through counselling I learned to accept my anxiety as a helpful feeling rather than the enemy which helped me to find freedom and healing.
Here are some of the most common anxiety-related challenges I see in my therapy room, and I can help you with too:
- Panic attacks – a physical symptom of anxiety
- Generalised Anxiety – Feeling anxious about most things in your life
- Avoidance – staying away from things that make you feel more anxious
- Disassociation – Disconnecting from yourself and the world around you
- Social Anxiety – People pleasing, boundaries, confidence
- Hyper-vigilance – always thinking worst case scenario
- Health Anxiety – Obsessing over your health or the health of others
- Phobias – Fear around a specific topic which is affecting your daily life
- Low self-esteem – due to the impact anxiety is having on your life
Practice description
How I work...
My approach is to offer a safe and accepting space where I can support you with how to manage your anxiety in the present. I also provide an opportunity for understanding of WHY you are feeling anxious. Anxiety can be a really helpful emotion, often pointing to something in our lives that we haven't yet processed, together we can explore these things so that you can find some clarity.
Our aim together is to give you the tools, understanding and awareness you need to find freedom from constant fear and worry.
I offer in-person (Newport Pagnell -Milton Keynes) and online counselling sessions in for adults (One to one, 18+).
Sessions take place once a week for 50 minutes either in-person (Newport Pagnell - Milton Keynes) or online via Zoom. My fee is £70 and is due in advance of each session.
Session times are during the day (school hours 9am - 3pm) and term time only with some evening availability.
Next Steps
If you are interested in counselling you can book in for a free short intro call (5-10mins) with me where we can have a chat and I can find out a little more about you.
Following the call if you would like to explore working with me we can get you booked in for an assessment session (50 minutes, fee is £70). The assessment session provides the opportunity for me to get to know you in a bit more detail and for you to ask any questions so we can decide if we will be a good fit. If so, we can then get you booked in for regular counselling sessions.
I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and ACTO (the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online).
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or check out my website crowncounselling.co.uk - I look forward to connecting with you!
My first session
During the first session we will go through your client intake form and I will ask a few more questions to get to know you a little better. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask me anything you would like.
From there, if we decide that we will be a good fit, we can get you booked in for regular counselling sessions.
