About me and my therapy practice

I am a psychotherapist qualified to Masters level(s) in both psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). How I work with you will be largely dependent on your needs and your goals for counselling. We will identify this together during an assessment where I will aim to understand more about you, the challenges you have experienced and the particular issues you are struggling with.

Our therapeutic relationship will be central to the healing that is possible for you in counselling. It will be a space where you will be 'heard' with empathy and without judgement and, from this basis, where the profound work of insight and change can occur.

Practice description

I offer one-to-one, in-person and online counselling from the comfort of my quiet and private setting in central Beckenham. Sessions last 50 minutes and will be offered weekly, with a particular day and time set aside for you. This can include open-ended therapy lasting up to 12 months or longer, or time-limited work of usually around 16 sessions. We will decide on this together at the start, based on your issues and needs.

I offer affordable counselling that takes into account your particular circumstances – this includes some limited concessionary rates for student trainees or those on low income. As your scheduled space is held for you, missed sessions are charged for without one week's prior notice. Similarly, I will give you notice of any planned breaks that I am taking, for which I do not charge.

All our work together adheres to the BACP ethical guidelines for best practice and follows GDPR regulations on confidentiality and data storage.

My first session

Our first session together will take the form of an initial assessment, where you can provide me with a broad understanding of your issues and any related symptoms. This will include sharing information about your family life, your childhood and early experiences and your current circumstances. Many clients find this experience of being listened to without judgement therapeutic in itself.

I will take notes during this consultation, which will last for approximately an hour and is charged at the agreed session rate. It is an opportunity for me to start formulating an early idea of how our work together will proceed and also an opportunity for you to decide if you would like to work with me.
