About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor and I believe passionately in the transformative potential of therapy. As an integrative counsellor, I embrace various approaches but the central theory of my practice is person-centred which is the belief that you are the best person to bring about the change, growth and awareness you are looking for.

I have an MSc (Distinction) in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Keele University and my areas of specialism are trauma, how it is stored in the body, PTSD and post-traumatic growth. I am also experienced at using CBT to deal with eating disorders, body image and issues with self-esteem. Having experienced loss and bereavement in my personal life, I fully appreciate the compassion and clarity that effective therapy can provide at times of need.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked in education as a teacher and pastoral lead in secondary schools. My background in this field means that I am still keen to support young adults and their families with the challenges and issues they face in navigating their way through the teenage years .

I provide a safe and confidential space and am fully committed to fostering inclusivity, diversity and affirmation within my practice. I welcome clients from different cultures, backgrounds and from the LGBTQ+ community,

In addition to working in the traditional room setting of my private practice in Cheshire, I offer opportunities to work in nature with walk & talk sessions at various locations in the Peak District such as: Macclesfield Forest, Goyt Valley, Rainow, Bollington, Whalley Bridge and Buxton. Since lockdown, I have also been offering sessions via zoom or telephone.

Practice description

You will most likely seek counselling at a time when you are feeling particularly vulnerable, when you are confronted with stressful life changes, traumatic experiences or symptoms of mental illness. Whatever brings you to seek support, I will provide a safe and confidential therapeutic space where you can bring unconscious patterns of thinking and feelings into awareness and see yourself with increasing clarity and compassion.

Using an integrative and holistic approach, I am able to draw upon a range of theories and techniques to enable us to find the best path through for you. I believe that you are best placed to know what hurts, what you wish to change and how to go about doing this. My role is to meet you in this process with compassion and empathy to help you cope better and move forward in ways that feel right for you.

I have a particular interest in Ecotherapy: where psychotherapy takes place away from the traditional therapy room and moves into the natural world. It involves working therapeutically in and with nature. Outdoor sessions take place in and around the Peak District and Cheshire.

Within my practice, I have found it useful for some clients to draw on the mind-body connection to explore what is going on for us internally and to look at ways of releasing these emotions from the body to help us move forward.

All sessions, whether in-person, via telephone/zoom or outdoors, are 50 minutes in duration and tend to take place weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs.
