About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Natalie.
I offer a creative counselling space, with a tailored therapeutic approach, guided by your pace and focus. I aim to build a genuine connection, one that can promote self-reflection and lasting growth.
Since qualifying as a psychodynamic counsellor in 2018, I have developed a way of working which encompasses thinking about the balance of mind, body and soul. Through the psychodynamic perspective, we can make sense of the present, by looking to the past for answers and explore how you make decisions which affect the now, and the future. Together, we can understand and somatically process those experiences which continue to have a hold on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
I understand that seeking support is an act of courage and there are many reasons why people approach counselling. You may simply wish to strengthen the ability to cope with the demands of life, to build on self-esteem and/or become more authentically you. Whether you are being affected by a life event, or want to make sense of a whole lifetime, I am here to help you connect with yourself in a way that means you can move forward from imprints of the past.
Practice description
I provide weekly counselling sessions for adults with a range of life experiences, histories and present day issues. I am skilled at working face to face or online, on either a short-term or open-ended agreement. Alongside private practice, I work for Gloucestershire Counselling Service, providing counselling for people who have experienced trauma, abuse and have developed their capacity to attachment in challenging environments and complex family systems.
Although I encourage psychodynamic thinking and in-depth exploration of the past, I remain mindful of how trauma may continue to overwhelm a person’s capacity to navigate life and relationships. Therefore, I practice a trauma-informed way of working and an adaptive therapeutic approach when considering the lasting effects of trauma.
My first session
Free of charge consultation; at first contact, it would be productive to have a few minutes together on the phone, to discuss times/dates for the counselling sessions and any questions you may have. It would also be preferable if you could provide an email address for me to send the necessary information about the therapeutic process and associated fees. If you are happy to proceed, we can arrange to meet for an assessment session.
If possible, I encourage you to be well supported by those around, but I understand that there are circumstances which can make this difficult. Please let me know if there are any challenges to you being able to access support, so we can explore and adapt if needed.
Assessment session £50; when we sit down together for the first time, it is important for us to complete an assessment to help determine whether counselling is right for you and how long you may see the process lasting. This would involve noting down significant details of your life and the current reasons for you seeking a therapeutic relationship. I will ask you to reflect on what you think is causing you disturbance and what you would like to achieve from the counselling process. As the psychodynamic therapeutic approach is based on an exploration of knowledge, I strongly encourage reflection of family dynamics as well as intergenerational and cultural influences.
Assessments usually take 50mins to fall in line with subsequent counselling sessions.
Standard fee sessions £50 - every session thereafter would be built on the initial gathering of information from your assessment and working together on the goals set for the time-frame that we have agreed. I encourage regular reviews and welcome feedback to shape the therapeutic outcomes.
