About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor based between Wellington and Taunton in Somerset. Alongside my private practice, I work as a psychotherapist for a large healthcare trust.
I offer both face-to-face and remote psychotherapy & counselling for either open-ended or time-limited practice, welcoming clients of every gender, sexuality, ethnicity, race, religion, disability and background.
Sometimes life can feel unmanageable- you may feel overwhelmed, troubled, or are experiencing emotional difficulty. Perhaps your thoughts feel confused and you don’t know where to begin.
Talking in a safe, quiet and non- judgemental space can help to make effective changes in our lives and enhance our well- being so that life feels less difficult and better understood. Exploring unresolved issues and conflicts can reduce fears and anxieties leading to the experience of a more fulfilled life. I work primarily in a psychodynamic way, letting you take the lead whilst creating an environment of warmth, empathy and understanding.
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step and can feel frightening as well as hopeful. Finding the right therapist can enable you to understand things with more clarity, using this understanding to develop a different image of yourself and to help develop stronger relationships.
Practice description
Why Psychodynamic
The psychodynamic frame aims to offer a holistic treatment approach and a more thorough examination of the self. It is a way of thinking about ourselves and also ourselves in relation to others, allowing the opportunity to explore behavioural patterns and relationships where it might feel helpful.
A ‘psychodynamic perspective’ recognises how current feelings can be linked to earlier life experiences. As a ‘talking therapy’ this can help us to understand how difficulties from the past can impact our present, therefore affecting our day-to-day habits, emotions, behaviours, relationships and our physical & mental health.
My Background
Prior to psychotherapy, my career as a nurse working in the NHS, the private sector, schools and across clinical specialities has supported my understanding and compassion of both physical and mental health.
My first session
If you would like to discuss therapy, please telephone or email me and I will contact you to organise an initial consultation session. I aim to respond within 24 hours and will arrange a conversation with you on the telephone (free of charge) prior to our meeting.
Our initial consultation session will be 50 minutes long and is available face-to-face, over Zoom or the telephone, depending on what feels most comfortable and suitable for you. This consultation is an opportunity for us to talk through your reasons for seeking therapy, for me to gather a brief background and for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
Ongoing sessions would then be weekly and last 50 minutes.
All contact with me is confidential. The only exception is if I believe you are at serious risk either to yourself or to others.
