About me and my therapy practice

Hi and welcome to my counselling profile.

I am an empathic, energetic and highly motivated individual who loves motivating others and helping them to work towards realising their true potential.

A few reasons you may wish to embark on counselling

Do you feel you’re not fulfilling your full potential?

Struggling with change or want to make change happen? Are you struggling to achieve your goals?

Have you got self limiting beliefs that stop you from fulfilling your true potential? Would you like me to challenge these and help you through?

Do you compare your internal world to others' external world? Is this leaving you with difficult thoughts and feelings?

Have you followed your personal and professional goals and on achieving them you feel deflated and burned out, leaving you unable to work out what’s next?

Do you struggle with being assertive? Do you struggle to say No?

Are you facing difficult circumstances which you don’t know how to work through?

Do you struggle building relationships or find it difficult trusting those around you?

These might be, to name but a few, of the issues that you might like to explore, work through and solve or resolve.

Psychotherapy & Counselling can help you think and feel through difficult personal questions, take stock of your life and address the issues that are making life difficult. Gaining a clearer appreciation and understanding of a problem is the first step on the road to making changes.

Having had years of personal therapy myself and having managed to steer the sails of my ship, taking me from, at times, isolated choppy waters to a warm, safe and more connected place.

I have a wide range of personal interests including outdoor pursuits and being in nature, art, tennis and start up businesses. In my earlier life I did some child acting and have a particular interest in working with people from creative industries and tech industries.

Practice description

Therapy that’s tailored to you.

I have a flexible and adaptable approach and would be happy to explore with you, what might best assist you, to move forward towards your goals.

If you decide to work with me, expect to be challenged in a kind, sensitive and at times, where appropriate a humorous way. You may find reflecting deeply and exploring your potential stimulating, rewarding, and profoundly encouraging.

You may explore concerns that are troubling you, in a calm and confidential environment, without being judged or criticised.

In a safe environment, thoughts and feelings can be explored and repeated patterns of behaviour identified, some of which may have a bearing on your current problem and the way you move forward in your life.

You can explore your experiences, thoughts, feelings and intentions in a safe environment, you may discover, overcome and change patterns of cognitive, emotional, behavioural response, that may have been causing your current problems.

I have a particular interest and lots of experience working with the following;

- Anxiety and Depression

- Neurodiversity (diagnosed and undiagnosed)

- Fear of failure

- Inner Critic & Negative Self Talk

- Perfectionism

- Addiction - Alcohol & Substance misuse, Gambling and others

- Communication issues

- Boundary issues

- Relationship Issues

- Self Esteem issues

- Parenting issues

- Life transitions

I'm able to draw on a wide range of therapeutic models and concepts as well as psycho-education and coaching techniques. I believe working collaboratively and relationally supports a strong and successful therapeutic relationship. I enjoy sharing practical tools where possible that can then also be applied outside of the therapy room.

My first session

Having had an initial 30 minute introductory phone or video call and decided to book an initial appointment.

Initial Appointment - what happens in the initial 50 minute appointment?

You will have filled in a very short form. We can quickly go over that and a short therapeutic contract I’ve sent you (not as daunting as it might sound) to see if there is anything you are not ok with or don’t understand.

To start therapy together it makes it safer for both of us if we understand the boundaries i.e. time limits, confidentiality, how we will work together and what you can expect.

The first session is an assessment session which looks different to future sessions. Having gone through the above and answered any initial questions you might have had we would move onto the assessment. This is me asking lots of questions to build a picture of what life has been like for you in the past and in the present and to tease out any further areas to focus on and goals for the work.

You can discuss anything you want to in sessions.

I will try to give you an indication of how long the work might take. Although that’s a bit tricky because you never know what will come out during the work.

I will try to give you an indication of how long the work might take. Although that’s a bit tricky because you never know what will come out during the work.
