About me and my therapy practice

Currently no availability -

Welcome.  My name is Karen and I am a Integrative therapist - working with the Person Centred Approach and Cognitive behavioural therapy.  I am also a trained EMDR therapist.   I hold a Master's qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy practice which I completed at Bath Spa University.  I am an Accredited member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and registered in the United Kingdom. I am also a counselling Supervisor.

I have many years of experience working with clients with various presenting difficulties including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress, ASD, and bereavement.  Currently, I am also a lecturer of counselling at a local college.

My therapy style is warm and interactive, and I believe it is important to treat everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion while offering a space free from judgment.  My approach offers a  combination of Cognitive behavioural and humanistic therapy while tailoring sessions to meet your needs.

Together we will be able to explore in the safe therapeutic space what you bring to the sessions and identify new ways of looking at or managing these situations.

It takes courage to reach out for counselling and it is the first step toward change.

I also offer EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapy which is recognised as a treatment for trauma.

Practice description

I am based in Canvey Island in Essex and I currently offer online and telephone counselling.

Depending on the need, I may be able to offer home visits.

When working with children and young people, I can work  with local schools to explore the possibility of holding sessions within school premises.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually weekly although I am flexible depending on needs.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have

My first session

In the first session, we will review your expectations for counselling, along with any previous experiences, concerns and questions you might have.

The number of sessions can vary depending on individual needs.

Some people find that one or two sessions are sufficient for immediate issues while others will vary depending on the type of difficulties they are experiencing. . Counselling is very much a process and, as such, can be reviewed at any time to ensure it is meeting your needs.

II am happy to offer and suggest free resources, on request, to support you between sessions and which are tailored to your specific needs.

I am qualified to work with adults, children and young people.  I have worked with primary-age children as well as adolescents in a school environment.
