About me and my therapy practice
Welcome! I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, qualified to Masters level. I work for the NHS as Relational Lead and in private practice. Taking the first steps towards better mental wellbeing can be daunting. Therapy can provide a safe, non-judgemental environment to explore the origins of our present difficulties and work through them. Life can be challenging and unpredictable and sometimes relationships with others can be confusing, frustrating and upsetting. We can be left overwhelmed, anxious, stressed and feeling hopeless. Quite often we find ourselves repeating negative patterns of behaviour, or we feel unable to control certain aspects of ourselves, but we don’t know why or how. Psychodynamic therapy addresses our issues by understanding how our past experiences may be affecting our present, and how we relate to and understand others. When we understand ourselves better, we are empowered to articulate our needs and create and maintain appropriate boundaries to ensure our relationships are enjoyable and rewarding. Self-confidence is improved as is our overall well-being and mental equilibrium.

Practice description
We'll work in a way that feels most comfortable for you. There is no right or wrong way to do therapy and people often find starting therapy worrying because they are concerned about the unknown or making startling discoveries about themselves. But it is often a gentle, enjoyable process of getting to know yourself better. Sometimes it can be tough, discussing difficult experiences, but my approach is warm and empathic and we will always work at your pace. You may know how long you would like to work together, you may want to discuss this and see what might fit you best, or perhaps you'd like to make a start and see how it goes. Every one of us is unique and has different requirements. I always endeavour to remain flexible, providing an approach which suits you and your individual needs.
My first session
We'll agree a good time for both of us to talk for an hour to learn a bit more about each other. Before that meeting, I'll send you my Terms and Conditions so that you are clear about what therapy together might look like and to make sure that you have had time to think about what you might like to discuss before we get started. A good, trusting therapeutic relationship is essential and we should start off as we mean to go on: by talking and learning to trust one another.
