Availability
I offer some daytime, evening and weekend appointments.
Most people have weekly sessions on the same day and at the same time each week. However, for some people this isn't convenient so I offer flexible sessions too, to meet your individual needs.
I offer early morning sessions for those that like their session before eg starting work, and I can offer some late evening sessions by arrangement.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Lesley, a qualified counsellor offering a professional, non-judgemental, and confidential service, covering a range of difficulties.
I can offer you a free 30 minute initial consultation so that we can meet and see if we can work together. Research has shown that one of the most important parts of counselling is the relationship between you and your counsellor so in the initial consultation you can see if I am the right counsellor for you.
I work with a diverse range of issues including bereavement, anxiety, depression, life events, neurodiversity, addiction and loss. These are just a few of the difficulties people have brought to counselling, and if something is causing you to worry or be concerned, whatever it might be, then we can see if counselling can help you.
We can work on a short, medium, or long-term basis depending on your need.
Previous Experience
My work with SEND families has given me a good understanding of neurodiversity, autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, SEND needs, and many other conditions and difficulties, including separation anxiety, general anxiety, and depression. I volunteer with Cruse, have previously volunteered for The Samaritans and enjoyed a long and successful nursing career. I have benefitted greatly from extensive training and my previous work experiences have been invaluable when offering support now.
Continued Professional Development
I regularly undertake Continued Professional Development (CPD) training courses and workshops to keep my practice informed by recent research, and because I understand that it is essential to keep up to date with the latest information. This enables me to offer you the very best possible service. I also attend regular supervision where your identity is protected maintaining your anonymity to ensure I am meeting the standards set for ‘Good Practice’ by my professional body, the BACP.
Practice description
Life changing events or ongoing difficulties can be hard to resolve on your own and you may not want to talk with family and friends, or that just may not be enough.
My person-centred counselling is based on Humanistic Psychotherapy that puts you at the centre of the counselling. If you choose to, we can explore how events, a problem or a fear may be affecting you now. We can look at coping strategies and explore future goals. Sometimes we just feel we need to understand ourselves, and others, a little more.
This is your therapy, and it really is important that you feel comfortable talking with me to get the best from your therapy. I provide a therapeutic space where, however vulnerable, uncomfortable, or difficult the situation, you can speak openly knowing you are in a confidential, non-judgemental, and safe environment.
My first session
During our free introductory session we can discuss what has brought you to counselling and possible ways forward. I will answer your questions and explain the counselling process. If you decide that I am the right counsellor for you, sessions will usually last 50 minutes.
