About me and my therapy practice

I am offering a confidential, respectful, non-judgemental space which is underpinned by genuineness, compassion, and curiosity for adults and young people aged 11 onwards.

In my therapeutic practice I have worked with lots of different issues, such as anxiety, low mood/depression, self-harm, difficulties with eating, difficulties in relationships, anger, suicidality, shame, bereavement, LGBTQ+, intrusive thoughts, neurodiversity, self-esteem, and abuse, although this isn’t comprehensive.

I trained Integratively, which means I utilise various ideas and concepts to aid and underpin my practice, whilst ensuring I am led by what is important to you. I am passionate about delivering client centred care, so that individuals are treated with knowledge and respect for their values and personal priorities. My experience of working within the NHS, community and charity sector, and in state secondary schools, has allowed me to work with a diverse range of people of varying needs.

Please note I do not offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as a stand alone provision. Please refer to https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/ to find out more about different types of therapy.

Practice description

People often ask how does therapy work, and I find myself asking them what do you want or need to be different, or to have more or less of in your life. Once we figure that out, we can then start exploring how we might get there.

"Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards", Kierkegaard.

My first session

The first step is to make contact for a free initial phone call. This will be for 20-30 minutes to begin to talk about what brings you to counselling and give you a chance to ask any questions you may have about me.

Please note for under 18's I may request an initial meeting with parent/carer and the young person. I may also request for parents/carers to join for sessions, but this on a case by case basis and do not offer this as standard.

I am able to arrange an in-person initial meetings - this would be chargeable.

Our first session will be an initial assessment - this is where we explore your hopes and needs from counselling as well as gathering some important information about you.
