About me and my therapy practice
Hello I’m Simon McGibbney.
I’m an experienced accredited counsellor and EMDR therapist working with adults on a wide variety of issues, including:
- Trauma (Inc post traumatic stress/ PTSD)
- Anxiety and negative thinking
- Depression
- Relationship issues (intimate/ family/ social)
- Grief and loss
- Confidence and self esteem
- Working alongside LGBTQ community
…and many more.
Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s bothering us and our issues don’t always fit neatly into boxes. I try to meet my clients as unique individuals and work hard from there to understand what the issue is.
As an integrative counsellor I will work with you relationally to really understand what’s happening and use my experience and skills from different therapeutic modalities to help you move towards a desired goal. Sometimes that will be very specific and other times it might be working to understand yourself more deeply or authentically.
EMDR, or eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy, is an evidence-based approach to therapy that helps people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of upsetting, disturbing and traumatic life experiences. EMDR is a powerful approach that harnesses the natural tendency to recover from distressing experiences which can sometimes become blocked. EMDR can produce results more quickly than traditional talking therapies and you will not be required to talk in depth about your distressing experiences.
I am a gender sex and relationship diversity therapist, accredited by Pink Therapy, the UK’s leading LGBTQ therapy organisation. This means I have demonstrated my experience and knowledge of specific issues facing LGBTQ folks and welcome clients with an affirmative and inclusive approach.
If you think I sound like a match for you, get in touch.
